Bridemaid / Friend Issue Post-Wedding -- thanks girls

Bridemaid / Friend Issue Post-Wedding -- thanks girls

I'm going to make this as short as possible. I'm looking for advice on what to do with this situation:

A little background: DH's good friend and his wife were in our BP. Other than the fact that they are known for cancelling plans last minute, they are good friends to us. They have a now 21 month old and we understand that their child means everything to them. They left our reception at 10pm to drive 10 hours home to VA to be with their son. After us trying to get them to stay til the end with no luck, the end result was that 'we don't have kids so we don't understand'. We were just concerned about their safety.

Anyway, they are expecting another child this Spring. Since our August wedding we have only seen them once (New Year's Day dinner here in our new home). They like for their son to be in bed by 7pm and will not do anything socially if it interferes with his sleep schedule. (They won't put him down on one of our beds.) We have offered to visit them at their home so they wouldn't need a sitter but they have never followed through and invited us.

Lately I have been feeling so down about how our friendship is drifting apart. Before I moved to VA they couldn't wait for me to get here and she would say how it would be awesome to hang out and do girl things together. Now that I am here, I feel like they have forgotten about us. They never respond or acknowledge emails, calls, or text. If they do, it's rare. I even stooped down to ask if she was mad at me. She said, 'No definitely not mad at you. Just been crazy busy with getting further in the pregnancy, working more, and daycare issues.' Ok, I can understand that even though I don't see how taking 30 seconds to reply to a text is so difficult. And she has an office job and is on Facebook a lot so I don't understand how it's difficult to reply to an e-mail. As for her daycare issues, I have a very open schedule and offered to babysit the boy if it would help them out at all. She didn't even acknowledge my offer.

I don't take Facebook too seriously, but when someone else asks her if she wants to get together and go baby shopping, etc,, she replied saying 'I miss you too! Let's do it! You pick a day!' Another friend of hers asked if she had any plans in the upcoming weeks. Her response was 'No plans. I lead a very boring life haha.'

Gee, that's weird. I thought she was 'crazy busy'

DH is turning 30 soon and next weekend I wanted to have a few people here. I gave them plenty of notice in hopes they would try to find a sitter. But she hasn't even acknowledged my invite. I started a chat with her and we were talking about DH being away for 5 days (in hopes of maybe she'd be available 1 day) and all she said was 'that s*cks.' She did say she would let me know if she can meet up but didn't know what her week would be like. This was Monday. If you don't have plans for the week by then, IMO, that's lame. I live close to her job and could've met her for lunch on her hour.

*ETA* When I asked if she talked to her husband about the 13th coming here for DHs bday she didn't reply. I just got the ___ is offline notice. Everytime I bring up getting together, the conversations/emails stop.

DH and others are telling me to just back off and leave it be. I'm trying, but it's so hard, especially since I haven't met many people to the point of getting together outside of work yet and she seemed so excited for me moving.

If you're still reading, I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

i agree that maybe you should leave it alone. i understand having priorities with kids and the stress of being pregnant, but IMO she would make time for you if it was important to her. don't put the effort in if it won't be returned. its not fair to you to go through all of that just to get shot down. i would talk to her from time to time, just to keep in touch and see what happens, but i wouldn't put anymore effort into seeing her if she is 'so busy.'

i am sorry you going through this ....

it really sounds like they are blowing you off. We all have a million things to do, its no excuse.you want to see someone you make it happen. My best friend has a 13 month old and she is not able to go to vegas with all of or stay out and party but we do other things like get mani pedi, go shopping, do fun stuff with the baby. sounds like the things you are asking them to do they dont want to do them so they just make an excuse or whine. i would continue to invite them places if you have fun with them but dont be suprised if they say no. nothing will be solved by calling them out, they enjoy different things now and it doesnt sound they are missing you so i would not waste my time

honestly...i would say forget her!! you are obviously an amazing friend...who she does not deserve!!

I had BM issues after the wedding! one of my closest friends since kindergarden...just basically stopped talking to me after the wedding! i was emailing, and calling and texting, she didnt even have the decency to write me back and explain why she was mad! for a long time it bothered me sooo much, and wanted to work on the relationship and fix whatever the problem was! but in reality...what did i do on my wedding day to her, that caused her to never speak to me again! she left early so i wasnt even with her a full day!
anywho i came to the point that i dont need those type of people in my life! why am i trying soo hard to fix things if clearly she could care less!
so its been over 6 months havent talked to her once!!! i actually accidentally called her cell phone by accident today cuz its simialr to my dads, and realized she changed her number!!!!

you seem like an awesome friend to have, so altho you may have not met alot of people yet!! you will and you will have friends who will be deserving of your friendship!! she does not!

sometimes tho if you let it go a little she might come along! she might realize that she is losing a firend and you are not going to always be there and want you back

I'm really sorry this is happening to you.
I have to agree w/ the ladies by saying 'let it go.' I know this is hard to do b/c it is your friend, but this is one of those things where you just have to let it be.

A lot of my friends are parents and it is not the same anymore. We don't hang out or talk as much anymore and if we plan a get together it is the ultimate production between babysitting, daycare, time, date, ect. When we do get together, the conversation is predominately about kids. At times I get frustrated but then again, I ask myself Is this going to me when I have children?

I totally understand how you feel...totally, but I also can imagine how her life has changed with a family and her schedule.

The most you can do is try and don't take things the wrong way....they'll come along.

I agree with the above posters. I am sorry you obviously seem like a better friend than she is.

So sorry you have to deal with such self-absorbed people! You don't deserve to feel like you're doing something wrong by aggressively trying everything you can to maintain this friendship. You deserve a medal!!!

DH moved back to NC after being away for almost 4 years to lots of friends saying they were happy to have him back. When I moved down a year later, I started trying to contact these old friends of his similar to your situation. Some of them constantly say 'sure we'll see you soon' and then never come through. One of his friends had a daughter 2 1/2 years ago and I met up with her for lunch two weeks ago -- it was the first time I'd seen her since before she got pregnant over 3 years ago!

Basically, what I did was give up on trying to make DH's former friends my best friends and instead have been trying to meet people on my own. I joined the local gym and have gotten to know the women there and they're wonderful (albeit a bit older than me). Once I start working I'm sure I'll make some more friends, too. I did find one h.s. friend who moved down here with his wife and we've become a little closer. All in good time.

I don't agree that you should give up on those people, but think you shouldn't worry about bothering her too much. Ask every day. Call on your way to her house and just show up with some treats. Insert yourself into their lives until they realize you're someone important to them. Start pretending you're close again and then you can be. If you even care enough to. Otherwise just move on. Like they're the only people to ever have children before?

Hope you feel better soon!!!! Don't let them get you down!!!!

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. .so hard to have friends not follow through and be there for you. .

I think that you might just stop asking for a while. just to not feel like you are trying and trying and have no follow through on their part. . feel like you might just write a note saying. hey seems like you have a lot going on so i don't want to assume it's personal yet at the same time I don't want to continually reach out and have you not be available. so if it's just baby craziness and stuff, I get that so I'll just leave it up to you to reach out?

I dunno. or if you really don't want to, you can just let it go and see what happens. ..

sorry again .

Re: Bridemaid / Friend Issue Post-Wedding

Thanks everyone for you advice. I appreciate it. I am going to back off a bit and see what happens. But here are my final thoughts:

1- If you are invited to a party, an RSVP would be greatly appreciated.

2- If you tell me you are crazy busy, but tell someone else you have no plans and lead a boring life, you can't blame me for being confused.

She did *promise* we will get together soon. So the ball is in her court now. Oh, and to the poster who suggested I just show up with goodies, I would never show up uninvited. I am the type of person that woud LOVE an unexpected visitor. They, on the other hand, are not.

But again, thank you. If anything happens I will let you know. On the plus side, DH (wow... I just put 'FH' at first LOL) and I do have another circle of friends who are reliable and say 'just say when!' when you want to try to plan something.

I'll let you know how it goes on the 13th and if we'll be up 4 people or down 4 people depending on them.
