Re: Brooklyn Annulment Q....sorry for this board
My brother had to get an annulment from his ex wife.his new wife said he HAD to so their son could be baptized.
I helped by completed paperwork sent to me from the church to prove the relationship was errrr.. bad .. not godly not good or some ridiculous bs that had nothing to do with anything at all really.
...
..
.
Best part was, they baptized my nephew before any of the paperwork was processed. Makes me wonder if it ever really mattered. They didn't even CARE until my SIL mentioned my brother's ex wife. *shrug*
It was St. Pats.. but not in NY, it was remotely done from Iowa via San Antonio with references in NY and California, how MESSED up is that!?

Re: Brooklyn Annulment Q....sorry for this board
My friend received an annullment in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocese...The annullment took a while to go through (about a year and a half) -- but they will push it through faster if you are planning to get married (that's what they told my friend).
There is a lot of paper work, questions, etc. My friend said it was worth it and that everyone she dealt with was very sensitive and understanding.
My DH's stepmother had to get an annullment to marry DH's dad. They wanted to get married right away and as I said, the diocese gave it priority and pushed it thru a little faster (this was Diocese of Rockville Center).
Good luck! Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Re: Brooklyn Annulment Q....sorry for this board
Thank you ladies. The annulment is for me. Was married briefly....looking back was immature, not truly ready for marriage...some other issues....We're planning (bf & I) July 2006 wedding, although not currently engaged (yet)
Veronica (hey girl!!!!!!) can you FM me what the paperwork was like for the 'witnesses'? How detailed was it? What were the typical q's? Was it strictly about the couple? Or about the individual parties?
Thanks ladies.

Re: Brooklyn Annulment Q....sorry for this board
The witnesses for my friend were her best friend (maid of honor) and her mom....They were allowed to submit written statements. If the tribunal had more questions, then they would have been called in person. They basically explained why they thought the marriage was wrong to begin with, that she entered into it for the wrong reasons, etc.
The ex also was notified of the proceedings and invited to 'participate' -- i.e., tell his side of things. But even if the other party 'objects', the annulument will still happen. The ex can't 'stop' the annulment.

Terrier...I know for a fact my ex will not dispute and basically does not want anything to do with it. (He's getting married in the Carribean next November). Does he get 60 days to respond and then they just proceed?Opps---last Q, does your ex see what YOU wrote? Or do they just send him a letter stating proceedings are going on & ask him to answer?
Thank yoU!

I know that if he doesn't respond, they just proceed... not sure how long they wait though... (my friend's ex just ignored it)I don't think he sees your statement if he doesn't participate.

You're welcome. I took a Christian marriage class in college. The professor repeated that exact phrase frequently. But you are basically right, it loosely means, not good & Godly & stuff.
