Caffeine Withdrawal

Caffeine Withdrawal

Holy crap. I have had the weirdest feeling in my head for the past two days and as my day goes on it turns into a horrible headache. I had to leave my gym class early yesterday because of the pain in my head. Then I realized, I havent had coffee since the day before yesterday. I looked it up on the internet and this is what I found:

What are the symptoms of caffeine withdrawal?

Regular caffeine consumption reduces sensitivity to caffeine. When caffeine intake is reduced, the body becomes oversensitive to adenosine. In response to this oversensitiveness, blood pressure drops dramatically, causing an excess of blood in the head (though not necessarily on the brain), leading to a headache.

This headache, well known among coffee drinkers, usually lasts from one to five days, and can be alleviated with analgesics such as aspirin. It is also alleviated with caffeine intake (in fact several analgesics contain caffeine dosages).

Often, people who are reducing caffeine intake report being irritable, unable to work, nervous, restless, and feeling sleepy, as well as having a headache. In extreme cases, nausea and vomiting has also been reported.

I have been feeling every single one of these symptoms. Im going to try and quit coffee. Anything that gives you withdrawals this bad cant be good for you.

I'm going through the same thing, I never thought I'd make it without caffeine. Right now I am doing 1/2 caffeine, 1/2 decaf.. So far so good.

I have had coffee everyday for the last 9 years AT LEAST.. I am definitely trying to cut out the caffeine, slowly but surely.. It's also a mental thing, having the hot coffee (w/o decaf) is what I need in the am.. not necessarily the caffeine, I've been fine the last 2 weeks...

Yeah that's normal and it happens to me all the time. If I dont drink coffee by the afternoon I start getting a headache. I used to drink about 3 cups a day and I was able to cut down to 1 and TRY not to drink it on the weekend.

yeah they say not to stop cold turkey bc you will go through withdrawls. For those who want to stop drinking caffeine they say to just cut down at first and slowly stop.

I definitely went through that a bit when i tried stop drinking caffeine a while ago

Its nutso! My head has been feeling so airy and throbby. I love my coffee but I think I really just like the warmth and comfort of drinking it not neccessarily the caffeine like a previous poster said. Im gonna start buying some decaf but I think Im going to have half a cup of regular tomorrow to help my headache.

I don't drink coffee, instead i have redbull when i wake up, thats my version of coffee haha. But if i dont have some sort of caffeine i do get like that, so i have a little soda here and there. I had successfully slowly gotten myself off of caffeine but yeah now im back on it.

yeah i would get the regular cup, maybe start having less and less and over time your body will get used to not having much caffeine

when i am on my period i stay away from caffeine for the most part bc they say to not drink caffeine bc it doesnt help with cramps and can make it worse, but ill try to have at least a small cup of soda just to get some caffeine for the day but also not make my cramps worse

oh yeah probably makes it harder on you since you are on your period. S*CKS bc if you have caffeine it can make your cramps worse but at the same time not having caffeine is making you feel like this. I would have at least a glass of soda now or something if you dont want a cup of coffee

That happened to me with redbull! I was drinking one around the same time (4pm) every day and one day I didn't have one and got a headache.... so then I drank one and it went away! From then on I have stopped drinking them every day... too scary to neeeed to drink a redbull to get rid of a headache- I LOVE the way they taste though so its hard to give them up completely... but I am trying to not drink one EVERY day

I am addicted to redbull lol i have 2 every single day. ALot of people do crash after having one but luckily i dont go through that so its ok. It actually helps me alot, i have low blood pressure and it balances me out. Theres times when i am out and pressure goes down too low, usually happens when i am shopping for too long hahaha and i take a redbull to get back to normal. Dh laughs at me and says i am the only girl who hates shopping and gets like that after hours in a mall

Re: Caffeine Withdrawal

try drinking decaf and alternate with tea until you get less headaches ...

i don't drink a lot of coffee but there are times when i really need to and once i stop I just can't function normally!!

ditto. we've even talked about coffee..caffeine in general... in my clinical psychopharm class here and there and like many other drugs (no one likes to think of coffee like that but its true) it causes a horrible withdrawal if you stop all together at once, so just cut down slower with each day.
