I know some of you ladies are into photography so I figured I'd start here.
I want a professional camera, but dont know which to get or how much I need to spend for a good one.
I have a typical sony 7 mp for every day candids, but I can focus w/ that one and have the backgroud blurred (ya know what I mean).
I want to take pics for either art work or of my kids (whenever that may be). Maybe get into taking pics for friends and family.
So, where do I start?
Thanks!

Re: Camera Question?
I have a Canon 40d and LOVE IT! The rebel is awesome too. I am into photography and just did a whole bunch of research so I will share some knowledge with you.
If you want alot of Depth of Field (what you are talking about with blurry background) - you need a lens with a low aperature. For example if you buy a lens that is zoom lens 24-70 f/4, you may not get the blurr you are looking for. I have a lens that goes down to f/2 and I get great blur with that. So the lower the number the better the depth of field and blurr. I would definitely invest in a nice lens with a low aperature..it is worth the money trust me!

Re: Camera Question?
I was just looking at reviews of the rebel 12mp and it looks good, but I really cant say b/c I havent done enough research to know what the helll im looking for haha
I told DH that he didnt have to buy me any presents for b day, xmas- nothing! if we could get a camera. First he sounded impressed that I wanted to get into photograpy, they he gets all 'oh its a lot of $$, we just bought a camera'.
After I had just explained to him that our camera is a pos compared to the one I want and I wished we never bought it from the first time I used it (bad at taking pice in low light and really slow and never gets the shot.
Aagghh MEN!!
Do you think he will miss a $600 or so from our account?

is the f the fstop- something about the light that comes into the lens?
So, even w/ the 18 to 55 that says it gives f/3.5 to f/5.6 , thats not enough and I would have to upgrade the lens?
I am probably better off getting the body only and buying a lens I want then, right?
Oh geez, this is confusing

Yes I did body only and then got a 50mm f/1.4 lens - it doesn't zoom but it takes great pictures. I have the 18-55 too and it is good but the 50 I got is night and day. I don't think the 18-55 does great blurr but I will have to play with mine tonight. I am saving up for a really nice lens - then are pricey!
Oh and the f-stop does let light in the lens but it mostly controls depth of field. However the lower the f-stop the less I have to use flash because it does let a lot of light in! Ok - I am no pro though and this is all I have learned so far in my classes - hope it helps!
