Can Anyone Help?

Can Anyone Help?

Crosspost from 08....

So, i spend the ENTIRE day today, altering out honeymoon plans, because Dave's boss is a jerkoff and won't let him do two weeks in a row, even though Dave told him A YEAR ago that this was our plan......and i plan the whole thing out and then find that the car rental ALONE is going to run us $963.00.....

because we're picking up in Houston (on september 13th) and returning to Las Vegas (on september 23rd)....

There has to be a better way...but i can't find it....and i'm seriously at the point of crying...

The best price i could find was on Expedia (hotwire doesn't do one way rentals)...

Is there ANYONE with an idea of how to do this?????

i have to figure out a way to get a car from Houston to Las Vegas without the stupid 'drop off' charge....

one way rentals are apparently NOT the way to go - but we have no other way....

WAY over 25 - he's 38 (today actually) and i'm 33.

Re: Can Anyone Help?

can you pick up at both airports?

i found you can pick up at Houston Hobby Airport and drop off at Las Vegas airport -- for about $200 less with Thrifty with an Economy car at about $743

i find that thrifty is usually a good choice for car rentals

the drop off fee really destroys you though. :-P at $558!

this is another one from Houston/Bush airport:

Pick-up: HOUSTON/BUSH INTERCON, TX, USA
Date: Sep 13, 2008 10:00 AM
Drop-off: LAS VEGAS AIRPORT, NV, USA
Date: Sep 23, 2008 06:00 PM
Car Type Compact

Car Type & Rate > Change
Car Class: Dodge Caliber or similar

Rate: $99.00/week

Drop off fee: $558.09

Total Base Rate (USD): $721.05

Have you looked into those 'drive away programs'? It's when someone needs a car transported one way - like when they move - or by companies that need cars shipped.

A friend of mine drove a car from NY to LA and then flew home from LA.

I think she paid a nominal fee but did not pay for the gas but I am not certain.

Anyway, just an idea...

Re: Can Anyone Help?

i WISH we could do a compact car - but Dave is 6'4, so he wouldn't fit into it....so we have to go midsize...we've had problems before - his knee locks up from driving in a car too small...

Re: Can Anyone Help?

If you plan on staying in Houston for a few days, you can rent a car for the time you will be there from hotwire. Then return it back in Houston and rent another (via Expedia) for the drive to Las Vegas.

We are doing this in November for our trip to Florida. It is saving us about $300.
