Can someone explain...
We just got a 'wedding information' card in the mail and on the bottom it says'*Also please note that monetary gifts are much appreciated due to shipping costs on gifts'
now.. does this mean that it cost them too much to ship gifts, so give them money for the wedding so they can cover?
I'm a little confused here... and any help would be appreciated...
TIA
ps.. we can't afford to go to the wedding and already sent back the RSVP but we still got one of these... hmmmm.. hidden meaning LOL

Re: Can someone explain...
Eww - they're just trying to act like there is a legit reason for asking for money - if you send a gift - they aren't paying for shipping - so why would they be concerned about shipping costs??

Re: Can someone explain...
that is pretty poor taste!normally, if i wasn't attending a wedding, i'd send some sort of a gift to the couple, but in this case, i'd make an exception!

Re: Can someone explain...
That is really weird!!! I don't understand how they would have any shipping charges..If I got that, I would probably send a gift, specifically b/c they are asking for money!!!!

Re: Can someone explain...
I think it is tacky, but could it be that they don't want gifts at the wedding, since they would have to ship them home, if their wedding is not in the same place as their home?If not, then they want to maximize the gift they get from you, they would rather you give them the money rather then pay the shipping fees.
Either way, pretty tacky!

I agree that it's tacky. But, are they moving post-wedding, or is their wedding not where they live? When I moved over to London to be with DH, I had to ship lots of wedding gifts. But, I was sending my stuff over anyway. Still cost me about $1000 to ship everything!!!

Re: Can someone explain...
*whew* I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought it was tacky...This little card came seperately... They sent the invite about a few weeks ago with no directions, hotel info, nothing... then they sent this seperately telling you all that info about the hotel, directions..etc... and that little 'blurb' was on the bottom of the main card. When I saw that my jaw dropped!!!
I couldn't believe that they would say something like that.. I was always taught that it was in bad taste....
Well... we're not going to the wedding and we're not sending anything... This is a 'cousin' of DH that he has met only once when he was 12 or so... I figure if she was so much of a 'cousin' why wasn't she on my MIL's list for our wedding...
thanks for all the comments.. you guys are funny!...

Re: Can someone explain...
yuk - always bad form to flat out ASK for wedding money! Most people give money at the wedding anyway, I think it's pretty rude to come right out and suggest that your guests give you money! Taht's in every wedding ettiqutte book as a major NO-NO, someone wasn't reading her Martha Stewart Wedding Planning!
