i have to GFs that i trust more than anyone in the world. we're a little trifecta - my dad refers to us as the three musketeers. i think part of the reason why we have such a great bond is that we all come from similar broken backgrounds, and can relate to each other in a way that most others cannot. do we ever talk about each other behind each other's back - of course we do - but knowing that we'll be spilling all to the other person to their face very soon! we do not keep anything from each other - positive or negative, and that definitely strengthens our bond.

as far as other GFs, i do confide a lot, and have been lucky to not have any serious drama with anyone. but these are all people i've known now for years, so trust has been built up over time.

I think you absolutely can..I have been very lucky in my life to have a few very close GF's that I trust with my life. When I got engaged my GF's were so happy for me and throughout my planning and wedding they were beyond generous and supportive. I dont know maybe I am blessed but I have never had a good friend who was competitive or jealous...in HS or college there were FRIENDS who were like this....but Im 27 now and I have weeded out the losers I totally count on and need my friends I love them.

I have a few (operative word) close gfs...2 of them are my sisters. Other than that, I have friends but I wouldn't necessarily open up to them about everything (in some cases nothing). As far as being catty and competitive, yea I've seen and been affected by that.

But as far as guys not giving a sh*t and not gossiping...IMO they can be just as bad as women, only they don't call it gossip...it's playing poker, hunting, fishing, etc. The difference is that they don't get catty lol

I can!!! I have a lot of girlfriends who I love and feel no competition towards. I tell to tell girls and guys what I think... I go with my gut when trusting people, guys or girls.

I totally agree. I'm an open person by nature, and sometimes it's not a good trait, BUT I trust my instincts, no matter the gender, and usually it works well. I will admit it did take years though to learn to really trust my instincts.

I honestly don't agree. I can honestly say that I have two friends since childhood that I have never ever gossiped about, and I really never participated in any 'back-stabbing'. I'm not a saint.
Sure, I've done some things I'm not proud of, but never about anyone I called a true friend.
I know some girls who are wonderful, some guys who are wonderful, some girls who suck, and some guys who suck.

I honestly don't agree. I can honestly say that I have two friends since childhood that I have never ever gossiped about, and I really never participated in any 'back-stabbing'. I'm not a saint.
Sure, I've done some things I'm not proud of, but never about anyone I called a true friend.
I know some girls who are wonderful, some guys who are wonderful, some girls who suck, and some guys who suck.

so your friends have never gotten on your nerves? to the point where you just NEED to vent about her to someone else?! sorry - but i really find it hard to believe that you have NEVER ever EVER once talked about someone behind their back... and i dont even mean in a 'omg so and so slept with so and so last nite' type of way, i just mean biitching about them to other people about why they are pissing you off.... yes i consider that gossiping.... b/c whether you like it or not, if you are mad at someone, SOMETHING will come out that will be considered 'gossip' during a venting convo

i've been hurt too many times by close girl bestfriends in the past. i keep my friendships at 'arms length'. it sounds a little sad or paranoid but i'm actually happy where I am with all of my friends.

the only woman i really truly trust is my mother.

I can't honestly say that I have a female friend that I trust 100%, i've been screwed over so many times by old 'friends' that I don't think i'm capable of trusting females as easily...it's very sad.. I wish I could go back to the pre-middle school days when that wasn't the case

I can trust some people, others not so much. I just trust my instinct.

My rule of thumb is to never say anything about someone behind their back that I wouldnt tell them to their face.

of course i've vented, but its been like 'Sally was so late - it drives me crazy, she's always late!' but i would say it to her too
nothing bad. I don't think that's gossip.
I'm not saying I've never gossiped before, I'm saying I've never gossiped about a friend.
