So I broke my car door today and Geico is going to cover it but I have to pay a 500 dollar deductible. Anything over that they take care of. Does anyone know how it works? When I bring it to the place to get fixed, are they going to have a claims specialist investigate the damage??

Re: Car insurance claims
Either they will send someone out or your mechanic will contact them with his assessment. They take care of it for you. Good luck!

So they can claim that the car wasnt an accident?? And then refuse to fix it??

No, I don't think they would do that. They would just look at the damage and assess what it would take to fix it. In my experience, though, unless there is a question of the car being totaled, they will trust the mechanic's assessment. If it is more than the $500 deductable, they cover the remaining balance.

Re: Car insurance claims-HELP
Thanks for the info! I was worried because DH said the damage looks like I could have done it myself by hitting the car on something. So he made me paranoid!!

Get an estimate first of what the repair will cost. If it is not that much higher than the deductable, say up to $1000 to fix, I'd rather pay it than make a claim with the insurance company.
