Anyone care to share their experience there- Richie and I want to go there next Wednesday but only if its worth it!
Any recommendations for food? Keep in mind Rich and I only eat chicken no meat, pork or fish

Re: Carmines in the city?
yum, yum yuuuuuum!!! Their food is great, but definitely make a reservation! It gets so crowded that they don't even take walkins sometimes! DH and I always get spedini as an appetizer (bread fried w/mozzarella in the middle). For a meal we either get chicken parm or penne a la vodka and we add chicken. ENJOY!

Re: Carmines in the city?
oooh CARMINES!!! the best! The Chicken Saltimbocca is absolutely AMAAAZING. We get it almost everytime we go. and of course they're spedini(sliced garlic toast w/mozzerella in between) is to DIE FOR! It's all family style..so if u get an appetizer u'll probably only need 1entree to share!(u could do two of course..and bring some home!) all of their stuff is good..penne alla vodka, broccoli rabe, yum yum yum!...and the Tirimisu for desert is out of this world! (the best i've ever had!)(and if u're an icecreme fan get a half size titanic!) enjoy it! it's SO YUMMY! ..i'd definetly call & see what u can do for reservations.

Re: Carmines in the city?
Sorry, but I think it's one of the most overrated places I've eaten at in the city. It's definitely a tourist trap and the food isn't worth the 1 hour + wait at all. (Might be no wait on a Wednesday, don't know...)
The best thing I've eaten there ever has been garlic bread. (Garlic bread is pretty good - I'd recommend trying it! Other than that... eh.)
Food's not BAD at all, but it sure isn't great. The portions are family style and huge. 1 appetizer and 1 entree fed 4 of us last time we were there.

Re: Carmines in the city?
ps: i would DEFINETLY go to the one on the upper west side. the one in times square is WAY to overcrowded & u'll get more attention & probably better food on the UWS where there isn't so much hustle & bustle. ps: I LOVE THE CHICKEN SALTIMBOCCA! (lol yea i know - that's like 3times now)..just something different to try rather than ur typical dishes that u can get anywhere else

I agree. I have been to both locations and I think it is noisy, crowded and the food is just ok. I have had waaaaaaay better Italian food. Last time I went there I didn't even want any leftovers (there were a lot of leftovers). It's also a pain in the a$$ to park (unless you pay for parking, which can get ). JMO.

Re: Carmines in the city?
Dh and I were just last sunday - the one in the Theatre District by Times Square. I think its really good. Chicken Parm is great.
Make a reservation and keep in mind that it is family style - so you will be sharing. We ordered one entree and an appetizer and had A LOT left over.

Re: Carmines in the city?
I think the one in Times Square is a lot better. If you can, go with another couple since the platters are HUGE, and that way, you can try more things.
I would definitely order the eggplant parm. I think it is very good and it's veggie.
