I don't know what area you're near but Island Park has some good places... Paddy McGees, Coyote Gill, Bridgeview (kind of pricey) or in Freeport on the nautical mile would be nice. I don't know how much any of those places are but there are so many you can just walk up & down & the block & ask

Re: Casual restaurant by the water?
In Suffolk, there are several spots. Danfords is one (I'm biased but love them!), and also the Old Dock Inn in Kings Park. They are at the mouth of the Nissequogue River and it is a really nice setting. There are several restaurants down in Port Jeff Village that may fit the bill too.

Re: Casual restaurant by the water?
Lombardi's on the Sound in Port Jeff is also nice! They have a restaurant area where i always see showers going on that's separate from the actual wedding hall area. also, they now have the port jeff community center...it's the red building down by the docks...they have a room upstairs that u can rent out & it overlooks the water - it's in-expensive but i'm pretty sure u have to be a port jeff resident to rent it out???? good luck!

Captain Bills in Bayshore. My cousin had her baby shower there last August. They do a nice job and have a separate room.
