cat advice please

cat advice please

you girls always seem to help when it comes to random things that I don't know who to ask so I figured I'd see if anyone has ideas.
My cat is about 14 so shes getting up there but nothing seems to get her moving anymore. She won't play with her toys, string or anything anymore. She only gets up to eat & go to the bathroom (thank god )
she alwas looks so sad, any ideas on how to get her playing or interested in things or is she just too old

First I just want to say

secondly - I would try some cat nip - give the cat it's favorite treats and try to play some games with her or him.

I would also just make sure you give the cat lots of love - sometimes at that age they just want to cuddle If you see no signs of her not eating or drinking than the cat just probably wants to rest more - that is normal.

Just watch out for the fur change. If it starts to look more oily or matty or dingy that is usually a sign there is a heath issue. At that point I recommend the vet.

thank you !
her fur is ok so that's good. I hate the vet, well, she does
i'll try some cat nip & see if that helps.
she's also a little overweight or extremely fluffy so i guess that doesnt help

DH's cat Pesty is 19 and he doesn't want to play (even with catnip!) or chase around toys anymore either. He just wants to eat and sleep and go to the bathroom...he does go outside whenever he can though. You could try bringing your kitty outside and see if she likes the fresh air, it might invigorate her.
I think it's probably normal that your kitty is slowing a little bit....if she gets sick a lot or starts to drink a lot more water, I would call your vet though.

I would take the cat to the vet. They can find things out from blood tests. My cat ended up starting to develop kidne problems but wasn't really symptomatic yet. We changed her diet and she's been very playful lately.
