cat owners... or anyone else with furry animals who would like to give me advice.... (long sorry)

Original post by TommysWife08

bare with me everyone - im going to try & make this as short as possible...

not sure who remembers me saying a couple months ago that me & DH were taking in my friends cat until she looks for an apt... well, we've had the cat since august & things are totally fine with him EXCEPT when it comes time to go to bed.

DH doesnt mind the cat sleeping with us, EXCEPT this cat will ONLY sleep on your pillow... it refuses to sleep anywhere else on the bed. it wouldnt be SO bad if the cat layed down and went to bed, but he is constantly getting up & moving during the night & will walk over DH's head & he gets REALLLLLY mad.

i've tried EVERYTHING - making it a pillow bed on the floor of our room, putting a pillow at the end of the bed... DID NOT work then we started to lock him out of our room at night, but he started to get smart & scratch and meow at the door until we let him in.

last night i set up a banket and pillow on the guest room bed & put him in there, but all i could hear all night was him crying and scratching on the door

i am at a total loss as what to do... i havent gotten a good nites sleep in a while b/c i dont want DH to get mad that the cat keeps walking on his head... so i am constantly waking up and pulling the car back over to my side of the bed... but i really dont know what to do now.

if anyone has ANY advice - i'll be glad to take it!! i havent lived with a cat since i was like 11 so i'm clueless

TIA

get some catnip spray and make a little bed for him (whether it's at the end of the bed, floor, etc.) and spray it on there. maybe even add some real catnip of you want. introduce him to it a bunch during the day and right before you go to bed. then get a bottle of water and vinegar and squirt him with it whenever he gets on your pillow.

wow great idea!!! he loves cat nip!! i will def try this! thanks!!

I have two cats and one has slept with me almost since the first day I got her (nothing's changed)...she likes to walk on my head, pulling my hair (and DH's too now) which is really annoying...I kept putting her in different places on our bed at the foot and she's finally understanding that she can't go to certain places because I push her off (gently) if she does. Keep pushing her and she'll get the idea after a while
Poor kitties all they want is us !!

I have no advice for you because my dog not only sleeps in the bed, but too sleeps on our pillows! Although, once she is out, she sleeps like a baby and usually borrrows under the blankets after she gets some loving (she loves kisses!). Ask DH what he would like you to do, maybe he will have a better solution!'
Good Luck!

I still say annoy the crap outta him.

And I dont mean move him around I mean RUFFLE HIS HAIR and speak in a loud baby voice and pat his little booty, grab his face and kiss it over and over and over. Thats how I bother my Dora until she cant take it anymore. She swipes at me and storms out. HAHAHA

Jen did you see the cat video I posted on my Facebook??

those cans have COLD air in them though. if you spray it on your skin you could burn yourself. i'm not sure if it's a good thing to use it on a cat.

It's not the pillow the cat likes so much as sleeping by your head. So moving the pillow wont work. There are two options. Push the cat off EVERY time it climbs on the pillow. It will eventually get tired of this and go away. Or locking it out of the bedroom and let it cry. This will also take a while before it will stop scratching at the door. Either thing will only work if you stick to it and don't back down. It's like a kid. To break a bad habit with a kid you have to be persistent or the behavior doesn't change. I would suggest starting on a weekend, so if the cat keeps you up all night it wont affect your work. By Monday, you should ALL be sleeping through the night fine.
