What is all the hooplah around the 'grand entrance' into the reception? I feel like people think that if your guests see you during the CH then when you walk into the reception (which lasts for all of 10 seconds anyway) it will be ruined and not good b/c people saw you already.....when most likely they already saw you during your ceremony so you really aren't a 'surprise' KWIM?
We attended our cocktail hour and when we walked into the CH everyone started clapping and yelling for us - it was like the room stopped for us - and then when we had our 'grand entrance' into the reception everyone was pretty pumped - so we got to have two 'entrance' moments....nothing was ruined b/c people saw us.....
I just don't see the point of hiding in the bridal suite for 1 hour If you are taking pictures that is different - but if you have the time to go to your CH why wouldn't you?
What are you thoughts? Do you think the entrance is ruined when the bride and groom attend the CH?

You make a valid point!! I never made it to my cocktail hour.. so the grand entrance was fun,.. but I can see your point.

Re: CH Question
I wanted to attend my CH but I was busy taking pictures. I dont see what the big deal is. Everyone saw you when you were saying your vows so whats the big deal if they see you at the CH...

I just feel like after the wedding is over that 'grand entrance' may not be as big of a deal as you thought it would be and I don't think its worth missing out on your CH on PURPOSE in the hopes that your grand entrance is going to be insane - b/c its going to be insane ANYWAY

Re: CH Question
I agree. Its stupid. They just saw you get married and they have seen you before so what is the big deal?
I have a friend who was like that and adament (sp?) about not going to CH. I was like ok whatever floats your boat!
We went to ours but only for a few minutes :(

Re: CH Question
i wore different outfits for the wedding and the reception.. either way.. i know some people saw me walk out in my reception out b/c they were hovering around us like bees.. but i do see your point, if you are wearing the same dress, the wow factor from that is gone.. and regardless of if you meet and greet people, when the music is pumping and people have drinks in their system, when you enter, people will be cheering and clapping for you..
i didn't make it to our cocktail hour.. i took pics b/c we got married at the rh and i had to get into a different outfit, change of hair, makeup and jewelry and pics.. all in that 2 hours

Re: CH Question
Well for me i always wanted that 'Grand' entrance... i wanted the first time all my guests saw us to be WOW, not only b/c it was the first time they introduced us at Mr. & Mrs. but also b/c of what a show Russo's puts on.
I dunno, it is just something that made me happy and i felt it gave people a little suspense into when they finally saw my DH and I.
ETA: We got married at a church, so not everyone saw us before hand....

I agree- we took pictures for the first half and then went to the cocktail hour- we wanted to enjoy time with our guests and greet everyone- get that over with so we could eat & dance lol

Re: CH Question
i mean if that is what someone wants to do i'm not saying it is wrong - i just don't really understand the logic behind it and i think that maybe AFTER the wedding they may regret not going - or realize that it wouldn't have been a huge deal if they went.....i just feel like people are missing out on a huge part of their party and that makes me sad

Re: CH Question
We were taking a lot of pictures and didn't make it to the CH. Our BP made it for about 20 minutes. We went into the CH room because I wanted pics on that balcony off that room so people saw us. I had planned on going to the CH, we just never made it. People saw us in the halls when we were taking pics and I was saying hi to them. I think the grand entrance isn't a surprise element, but a way to kick off the reception. Annoucing the new Mr. & Mrs.

I see what your saying.... the only thing i regret is that we were so busy taking pictures i did not get to walk through the cocktail room, so i didnt get to see half the stuff everyone was talking about.
I let my bridal party go to cocktail hour, and yet they all stayed in the bridal sweet anyway

cocktail hour is just time for people to mingle.. most couples opt to take pics because they don't see each other before the ceremony.. and most are only an hour, so there isn't much time afterwards.. and i think its the most flexible part of the wedding..

well i was reading a post and there were people saying they dont want to go to CH just b/c of the grand entrance thing and not just for picture taking reasons (that i understand b/c not everyone has a lot of time between church and reception)....but to not go just to sit and hide - that makes me a little bit - but i do know things seem different when you are planning - i just think that after the wedding is over some couples might realize that their grand entrance would have been the same - i dont think mine would have been any different if we hid for the hour and a half that our CH was going on it was awesome when we walked in to the reception

i know i am going to get slammed for this but.. after the wedding and when i look back, i feel like some of things i worried about and thought was a big deal was so childish and petty.. not cocktail but just in general but hindsight is 20/20

Re: CH Question
i didn't even want to do a grand entrance... my dj talked me into it b/c he said it gets the party going... so we were definitely at the CH... and the entrance was only me and DH. So to me then the whole grand entrance thing was not a big deal. But i agree with you - I wouldn't have missed the CH for anything. best food!

Re: CH Question
I personally didn't care, but I liked being in the Bridal Suite with my BP b/c most of them were all of our good friends and cousins. It meant alot to me to have them all together and sit around and just have fun before we all went in. Most of them were all going in and out of the room and guests were coming into the room which sort of pissed me off lol not b/c I didn't want them to see me, but there was like this big crowd of people outside of our Brida Suite and there was another party going on across from us and those people kept trying to look in and come in or w/e, that was just annoying.
I personally don't think it's a big deal if you go out and mingle, it could cut down on your time spent greeting everyone and saying hello later on.

Re: CH Question
we told our parents and bridal party to go straight to CH and hang out - DH and I wanted to be alone in the bridal suite (our ceremony was at the reception hall and we wanted to be alone to enjoy those first minutes as husband and wife).....we hung out ALONE in the bridal suite for at least 20 minutes or so and then headed to the CH for maybe a half hour - at that point we said hello to everyone but still MISSED out on seeing alot of the stations b/c we were so overwhelmed with it all- then we went back to the bridal suite to be alone again and freshen up.... When our guests started getting seated into the reception our parents and bridal party came back to the suite and then once everyone was seated inside the reception we lined up for the entrance....We had 1 hour and half CH so we had lots of time to be alone and then we had time to mingle and then we had time to be alone again
Also everytime people were sitting for courses during the reception DH and I would run back to the bridal suite to be alone again we spent A LOT of time ALONE and A LOT of time DANCING

Re: CH Question
i agree Nik. when we walked into our CH one of my groomsmen who had just gotten married earlier that summer whispered to me: 'prepare to get bombarded!'
and boy was he right! as soon as we came in people were shouting and came running to us. i dont think i made it more than 3 steps inside. i kept getting pulled in different directions.
but it was a lot of fun! youre right its like having 2 entrances
