Charities that accept used appliances and cabinetry in Bklyn or there abouts?

Anyone know of any charities that will accept (and come get) old cabinets and appliances?

We have old but definitely reusable solid wood cabinets as well as a working stove and fridgerator. We are replacing it all when we redo our kitchen and the contractor will probably just bring it to hte dump anyway.

the society for the blind is in brooklyn - I believe...and I know they accept cars and other donations

ETA: do you have a basement or garage that could use cabinets?

I have a basement but we dont have any need for these items. And its such a shame to throw away.

Do you know if the society for the blind will come get them? That is key. I dont own a truck so there is no way I can transport any of it.

You can always call the Salvation Army as well. They are always looking for stuff, and I believe they will come get it.

Nope, Salvation Army wont come get it. In fact, when we tried to give away old clothes and stuff, they wouldnt even take it unless we made an appt!! (and we were driving it to them!)

Thanks Erica.

Ive called a few places today (United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army) and am really disguisted how these places handled my call. Not only do they not accept the donations even if they dropped off but they act like I am bothering them asking such a stupid question. Sorry, not everyone can donate thousands in cash. It such a shame that these items are going to go straight to the dump when Im sure someone get get some use out of a working stove and refridgerator.

I bet if you left them on the street...someone will take them...we left old beat up couches on the street and they were all gone by morning

I wouldnt leave it on my street. I dont want to subject my neighbors to seeing a bunch of garbage.

That's a shame that these charitable organizaions cannot be bothered to accept a generous donation.

Are they sellable?

We put it out the day before garbage pick up...so they only had to deal with it for one day

I think the rule is you can put up to 6 large objects out for garbage on any garbage day (not sure about the appliances though)

But what if no one takes it? Then what do we do with it.

We are paying our contractor to do all the demolition and removal so if I cant find a place to donate it to, im just going to let him trash it. I was just trying to give it to a good cause instead of throwing it out. So much for good intentions.

The stuff is 'sellable' but I dont want to be bothered. I will need it up until everything is finished and then I need it gone asap.

I guess I could ... but I want it to be gone when I have my new one come in. Selling it would be a major hassle.

I forgot that your contractor would remove it for you

No list it and let someone pick it up. Worth a shot.

My friend bought one this way.

I just thought it would be nice to donate it...but that has proven impossible so its getting trashed.

Stef, what if you list it on Craigslist as a freebie?
