ok so DH and i signed our contract, got the mortgage, locked into our rate and are pretty much ready to go, but it is like IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to tell us a closing date. i just dont understand it. the lawyer says theyre figuring stuff out with the bank attorney but nothing is happening and its been a week and a half since i initially asked. is anyone familiar with this process? who do i have to hound? or do i just chill for a few more days??? so annoying. thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE: we have a date!!! 6/2. now im scared. haha. and happy.

Re: closing date??
i think we closed about 4 weeks after we had the board interview (but we were buying a coop) so i'm not sure what it is with a house. maybe post on the 08 board also? i know there's been a few girls who closed recently.
eta: also, the closing date has to be a date where everyone involved is available, so that may take a while also.

Re: closing date??
unfortunately closing dates seem to change over & over again!!! between your lawyer, the sellers lawyer, they just can't get their schedules together!!! for us, I think we closed 2 weeks after the original close date they gave us. we didn't have our 'approximate' closing date until maybe a month after we signed the contract- I think we ended up closing 2 1/2 mths after signing the contract. but I think it made it worse for us b/c our seller had already relocated to Virginia, and she had to come back up for closing.

I agree with Helen. My mom had a major issue with the other side when she was closing on her house they just kept procrastinating on things. So my mom didn't close until 2 months instead of 1 month like she was supposed to.
With buying my house it only took 3 weeks and we closed. I think it depends on the parties so it sounds like something is up on the other parties side. I would contact the realtor or your lawyer to see what the deal is. It ***** when you are all ready to go and then it gets delayed.

Re: closing date??
From what I understand, it's the bank's attorney who really makes the closing date. Of course your attorney and the homeowner's attorney need to be available as well, but it was my understanding that the bank is the one who is really the deciding factor. We found out our closing date only about 5 days before we closed. It is frustrating, esp. when your lock is about to expire like ours was!! Good luck and try and hold on!!
