Commerce Bank.... Changing names issue!

Last week I went in with my marriage license to change my name on my account. The woman gave me a new signature card for 1 of the 3 accounts I have that is joint with my husband. She said that's all I needed and didn't need to change my debit cards.

Today I went and they said my name still did not change over and they don't know when it will be. I still have to sign both my married and maiden names on my checks and I can't get new debit cards until their system changes. Also, I talked to 2 different people. 1 said I would have to fill out a signature card for all 3 accounts, another said just 1 is fine.

I know that this is a confusing thing, but isn't someone there supposed to know what I'm supposed to do. I asked them what name I sign when I debit things until then and they didn't know! Finally one said just to sign my maiden name.

Don't get me wrong, they were both sweethearts, but hasn't this happened before? Shouldn't someone know?

I'd call the bank (your individual branch) or go in again and ask to speak to the manager. Explain that you spoke to two different people and got two different answers and you want this solved NOW.

I'm going to tomorrow. It was actually 1 person the other day and 2 today! I feel bad going over them but they made me so much more confused.

Manager isn't going to make a difference. I worked for commerce. The problem is it goes to the back office to be changed. The people at the branch can not do it. You are suppose to sign 1 new signature card for each account. BUT they can just make copies and put each account # on the top of the copy, So maybe thats why you got 2 different stories.

1 account alone
1 joint account with DH
and
1 joint account with my father

The signature card that I had to sign, DH had to sign also. Do I have to have my father sign one as well?

What about the debit cards?

They said they kept faxing through my paperwork and marriage license but got no reply.

I'm having the same problem with HSBC. Since it's an online account, they won't help you if you go into the bank & over the phone tthe people are useless

you need to sign

1 signature card alone
1 with hubby
1 with dad

Go back tomorrow request 3 more signature cards have them signed.

You should be signing the debit card purchases the name thats on the card since according to the bank that is your legal name.


It's possible they are faxing it to the back office and back office isn't letting them know these things need to be done. It could be that the person is new and has no idea or they feel dumb for not knowing

Once you sign the signature cards I would say it should take 1-3 days to change then you can get a new debit card. Good thing about them you get it the same day and don't need to wait for it be mailed like all the other banks.
