I am asking because DH and I live in Hicksville and I commute to Melville everyday which isn't bad.
Now, word is that we may be moving our office to Hauppauge.
Thought of that is not appealing to be AT ALL!
That would be roughly a 30-45 minute commute depending on traffic on such. Now I think we should move to Smithtown or something. Ugh, why?????????

live in Queens and work in downtown manhattan, right across the street from WTC. If I take the F train its an hour to an hour and 20 mins, its the worst freaking train and always delays and goes extremely slow although its express i also have to transfer at west 4th for the A train too or coming home take the A to west 4th to take the F
with the LIRR takes me 30 mins. I try not to take it as much but its hard when its so much easier. Now i take it just to work but take the F train home. The LIRR then take the A from Penn which is just 4 stops
the F is the WORST, I'll jump express sometimes in the a.m. ( i have to go back one stop to get it at 71st so i rarely do it) thinking i'm going to save all this time and then it just CRAWLS. totally succks.

Re: Commute?
I drive from Manhattan to Melville....it can take anyway from 50-1:15 minutes...and sometimes more. The way home is actually worse. At least I am against traffic though. I look at the westbound cars in the morning and feel so sorry for the people.

oh god i hate the F, there is always some issue with it and how does an express train go so slow it is the most depressing train too. Everybody looks so depressed, more than half the ppl are asleep and the rest look pissed like me lol. I miss the above ground trains in astoria, at least you see the daylight, just gives you a different feeling plus it was closer to the city. I love the LIRR though

they all suck IMO. the F, E, V and R always have something. I usually take the local.... I would take the LIRR but the subway is literally around the corner, and the LIRR is a 10 minute walk, and I'd have to take the 1 to the shuttle to get to work, to it's just not worth it. sometimes on the weekend though we take it home b/c the subways are just retarded on the weekends... and the LIRR is cheaper with the whole city pass thing. who knows what that'll go up to though.

oh yeah I cant stand any of them, the E is even worse. I used to take the E bc that goes to chambers straight directly but that takes even longer, it has that extra stop at queens plaza, at least with the F you dont stop there.
Yeah at night can you imagine how long you'd have to wait for the freaking F.

Re: Commute?
i live in bay shore/west islip and work in manorville... THANK GOD i never hit traffic b/c im going in opposite directions both ways.... it takes me about 30 mins... sometimes 20-25 if its a nice day and an empty sunrise hwy... i live about 3 blocks from sunrise and my office is ON sunrise so i literally go about 15 exits east and im there!
coming home is a different story... i travel into the field in the afternoon so everyday i come home from different towns... monday i drive home from mt sinai.... which believe it or not, i have made it home from there in 30 mins! tuesdays i drive home from nesconset which i love b/c its about 20 mins from me... wednesday i drive home from middle island, which can be about 30-45 mins and thursdays and fridays i drive home from manorville
everyone i work with is like OMG YOU LIVE IN BAY SHORE??? but i always tell them that i used to work in queens which was SOOOO much worse b/c the commute ALONE was about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic THEN i would drive around jamaica for about 20-30 mins looking for parking b/c our building didnt have a parking lot so we had to park on the street
ok wow that was a long explanation lol

see that's funny b/c i think the F takes longer because it stops at roosevelt island AND 21st queensbridge.
there will be nights that I go out near the 63rd & lex stop on purpose so i can 'get home faster' and all the turnstiles will be barred off bc the F just decides to stop running. ugh, hate the MTA.

snwb08 you and I must live in the same area. I take the train from 67th Ave. and I work down on Pine St. I usually take the R to Rector or the R to Times Square and then take the 2/3 to wall st.
Espo you're not too far from where I work either.
Commuting downtown is crazy, my commuting time isn't much shorter than when I go to LI and I actually have a much better ride to LI.
THe trains have been going sooo slow especially in the evening this week...sometimes I just want to scream.

yup, that's my stop. I take the V or R - whichever comes first. R to 59th and the 4,5 to Grand Central, or the V to Bryant Park then I walk to Park Ave. I can imagine the commute downtown must be terrible; and I agree sometimes when i'd stay at DH's mom's house in Baldwin it's just a nicer ride on the LIRR. I hate people on the subway who think it's okay to blast their ipods or even play one of those stupid games with the SOUND on for everyone to hear! I'm seriously a cranky biotch by the time I get to work.

I am VERY lucky! I literally work 1.5 miles from our house. I have to be here at 8:30 in the morning and I leave my house at 8:15 but only cuz I stop for my coffee and bagel
hate you! I had that commute once in my life and I sooooo miss it.
J/K...love you Marisa

Re: Commute?
I used to drive 39 miles to Stamford Ct, took anywhere from 50 minutes to 2 hours each way
Now i take LIRR to L.I.C and the train is 35 minutes, don't have to change but door to door an hour.

Ok how funny, but sometimes I commute from Baldwin depends on whether DH is working or not. He's a teacher at Baldwin HS , so most Monday mornings during the school year I'll commute in from Baldwin and if DH is off I'll commute in from Ronkonkoma. The rest of the week I generally commute from Forest Hills. It def. is a nicer ride on the LIRR. I appreciate it now more that I have to go downtown. I hate it when the Ipods are soo loud you can pretty much hear word for word the song. I listen to my IPod but I can't even imagine putting it on that loud. Today I had a gum cracking woman on the 2/3 downtown...OMG it was driving me insane.

Re: Commute?
My new job is in Syosset - and I live in Huntington - so it's a 15-20 min ride in the am or pm. I leave at 8:10/8:15 to get here at 8:30. Not bad at all considering some of the jobs I applied for - in NYC, Brooklyn, Stonybrook ...
