Con ed what is wrong with them!

So apparently con ed hasent read our meter for gas for 3 months and now we owe this insane bill. We arent home half the time how can our gas be $400 a month???? And you cant even fight it???? Anyone have this issue?

Is it because they haven't been able to read it and then they did so they're back billing you?

yea but how can it be $400 for one month for gas?? It just doesnt seem right. I turn off the heat when I leave for the day

You know what? I was shocked the past two months at my electric bill. It was over a hundred dollars and my bill isnt normally over hundred dollars in the winter. Summer months its expected but WINTER? It went down to 83 dollars this mont which I still dont get. I turn off all the lights. Its weird.

We don't have Con Ed, but do they offer balanced billing?

Based on your previous year's bills, they figure out what your monthly bill should be...you pay the same each month...any adjustments (plus or minus) are done at the end of the year.

I think they have that. But, for gas & electric during the winter shouldnt be like $600 a month when you live in apartment.

It could be they are back billing you for the last 3 months since they couldn't read the meter. I just read in my LI Water yearly update that they will charge people $100 for not being able to do readings over a certain amount of continuous months. Maybe con-ed does the same thing?
