I love eating, but hate cooking also i dont like even eating what i made, no matter how good it is, lol im so used to eating my moms cooking i dunno for some reason this cooking subject is hard on me... all through out undergrad i lived at home... and my mom was a stay at home mom. (my dad made enough $) so she'd whip up these gourmet meals every night..... and now that im on my own , i feel so overwhelmed... i part time work and am a full time masters student... by the time i get home i dont want to go near a stove!!! i feel so hopeless... everytime in the kitchen... whats wrong with me ??

Re: Cooking Poll
We eat out a lot or my DH cook the meals. I do not cook.......never really have. I'll cook soup or make a sandwich, but that's as far as I'll go.

Re: Cooking Poll
i'm pretty much a cookaholic. we probably eat out only once every few weeks because we love to cook and try new things. we get cooking light every month and try to create 'menus' every week. on nights we know we're busy, we'll cook something quick and easy that's more of a 'staple' (ex, linguine and clams - i can whip it together in 15 min), but on nights when we have nothing else to do, we love trying new things and seeing what we can do.
as much as so many people hate her these days (me included), some of rachel ray's cookbooks have fabulous ideas and they all take about 30-40 minutes (a bit more i think because seriously, i'd like to keep all of my fingers and not chop as fast as she does) i think they are a really good resource for people who are just starting to get into the kitchen, even if they hate it!

Re: Cooking Poll
I wasn't a big cook, until the last couple of weeks. I started a recipe book with a bunch of recipes the girls shared on here and others I had saved. I can send it to you if you want. Seeing all of the stuff the girls on here make motivated me to want to cook more. And DH is loving it! It makes me feel really good. Maybe try cooking for a week or two straight and see if you get into it. If not, don't stress it! You don't have to love cooking because you're a woman!

Re: Cooking Poll
I hate cooking too. I'm not good at it and I'm just not interested in learning recipes. Sometimes I feel guilty about it and wish I liked to cook or knew how to cook, but it's not me. So if I do 'cook' I make salad or pasta or a sandwich or something equally simple. We also like to eat out.

Not a big fan of cooking but I'm trying to learn!! I never really needed to know how.....my mother always cooked us dinner, and then I lived with my sister for the past two years- she cooked, I did the laundry!! It was a perfect team!!

Re: Cooking Poll
Don't feel bad. My Dad's a freaking COOK and I barely cook. I never had to before so when DH and I got together and moved in together I thought that making a box of instant mac-n-cheese was the norm. I've gotten better but not by much. There are a lot of times, in the beginning, that I used my local gourmet Deli as a 'crutch'. It was easier than learning because I don't really know what I'm doing and one would think 'ask your Dad! He's the cook!' but that really doesn't work because he just tells you the recipe off the top of his head because it is 'all in his mind'. ...which means useless! And since he went to Culinary School through the Navy when he was younger it's like second nature to him.
So yeah- back to the Deli- I would just go to a place like 'Seven Brothers' in Commack or 'Margaret's Pasta' ...any place that basically sold dinners (good ones) for cheap lol. Most of time time for about 8 bucks I could get DH and I a good little meal. Raviolis, Ziti, Sauce (and then I would just boil pasta), chicken cutlets, etc. It worked out great and then I would just sub in a salad or sides which is easy.
As time went on and I got good at the sides I became better in general and more 'ballsy' lol... I would TRY recipes and that helped. I went and got 'simple' cookbooks and made sure to stick with the '20 or 30 minute meals' and things like that. Don't start off 'gourmet' and expect to naturally turn into Julia Childs. By the time Summer came I was getting better AND Summer cooking is easier-- the Grill made life much easier and you could whip together an amazing meal (corn on the cob, salad, burgers/hot dogs and fresh mozzarella with tomato) and all of a sudden- to your DH- you are a Domestic Goddess!
So, just keep it simple at first and use things to help you out-- and as you go, you'll get the hang of it. Also, don't be afraid to ask friends for recipes-- I did that on LIF and got great ones! Just remember- he is a GUY- you don't need to make him something you cannot pronounce from France... Most of the time as long as it is simple, good and hits the spot- they are BEYOND happy.

Re: Cooking Poll
I almost never cook..thats DHs job I only cook when we want chili because I make awwweeesoome chili... or when we are having spaghetti because that is also easy to make and my sauce is just as good as DHs. And once in awhile whenw e wanna try something new I'll pick something from one of our cookbooks and make that.

LIke everything else, practice makes perfect. I LOVE TO COOK, and I can say that I cook EVERYDAY. DH never knew how to cook adn eventually over the years he has gotten the hang of it and is pretty good. Just give your self some time and keep trying and eventually you will learn to like it and become better at it!!

Re: Cooking Poll
My DH loves to cook and I hate it, so he's taken on that responsibility. It helps that he gets home way before I do. I cook when the feeling strikes me, but I'm more of a baker. I like to make cookies, cakes and muffins from scratch on the weekends. Definately not a dinner-cooking kind of girl.

Re: Cooking Poll
I actually love cooking more than I thought I would. I do it almost every night we are home unless DH has a craving for Chinese. I love to try new recipes but DH likes to eat what he's familiar with.

Re: Cooking Poll
DH and I both enjoy cooking -- and before we were married we cooked sometimes at our parents houses -- but it could be frustrating with either family around. Yoiu can only imagine So we used to just eat out a lot and now that we're married we try to cook everyday and eat out once in a while. But nothing crazy -- pretty easy dishes. I hate that in our apartment we don't have a dishwasher so doing the dishes can drive me crazy. One thing that helps is we have been trying to figure out what we plan to cook on Sunday for the upcoming week and plan a night out to eat in between.

Re: Cooking Poll
DH and I both really like cooking. I actually love to cook & bake!! The only reason I don't do it everyday is because sometimes its kind of late when we get home from work. Plus, my MIL lives around the block and always brings food over for us but if I had the time I would cook every single day! But don't ask me to do the dishes after I'm done!! I HATE doing dishes.

Re: Cooking Poll
I like to cook and I think I'm pretty good at it. But I understand where you're coming from. Most days by the time I get home after work, going to the gym, and running errands I just don't have the energy. So I don't cook as often as I should.
Do you have a crockpot? I love mine. I can run home at lunch, or after work before I go do errands and throw the food in. Then when I get home again dinner's done!
