I have 4 frozen chicken breasts that I was planning on preparing tonight from our Omaha Steaks Xmas gift from my sister, and I forgot to put them in the fridge to thaw last night before bed, as I did with our steaks for yesterday, but I put them in the fridge around 7:50 this morning...by the time I get home and would start to prepare them would probably be around 6:00...do you think that approx. 10 hours in the fridge would have been enough time to thaw out, or should I scrap it and just go get something else for tonight?

Re: Cooking Prep Question
I'm not sure if I have a defroster button, I'm sure I do I just never thought to look...but can you use that I wonder if it's already like 90-95% thawed? Like, I don't know if it would make the meat all funky if I did that if it wasn't frozen solid. Hmm...

Re: Cooking Prep Question
i think you will be good unless your fridge is realy cold if not when you get home throw them in microwave for a couple of minutes on defrost and you will be fine. the second you get home run them under cold water if they are still a little frozen.

Re: Cooking Prep Question
I did that with chop meat a few weeks ago and when I got home it was still frozen solid. So I put it in the micro on defrost....but you have to be careful with that b/c sometimes it will cook my meats!

Re: Cooking Prep Question
If its not totally defrosted, I usually put it in a baggie and run cold water over it.

Re: Cooking Prep Question
It may not be completely frozen but most likely defrosted enough to cook with. If it's still a little frozen let the package soak in cold water. Sounds crazy but I swear it works!

Re: Cooking Prep Question
Prob not. but next time when u forget u could have just left them covered & wrapped in the sink or in in cold water in a bowl or just out wrapped on counter to thaw that would have been fine.

Re: Cooking Prep Question
Chances are it will still be kinda frozen. You could put it in water before you cook to defrost it a little but. What time does your Hubby get home? If he gets home earlier, have him take the chicken out of the fridge and let it defrost in the sink.

Re: Cooking Prep Question
Im going to say its still frozen... If I take something out in the morn, i just leave it out on the counter the whole day to defrost... If I take it out the day before, then i leave it in the fridge

Re: Cooking Prep Question
Chances are it's still going to be frozen, I agree with the other girls, next time throw the package into a bowl of cold water and leave it in the sink, it will be fine by the time you get home....
on BTW...I took out chicken this morning (4 chicken breasts) at around 8 AM and left them on the kitchen counter, I just checked and they're still really frozen so I would imagine that urs is frozen solid in the fridge...the defrost button on ur microwave should do the trick (most microwaves have a defrost) just don't put it in for too long, I would try 1 minute at a time.
