If a friend got divorced soon after getting married (1-3yrs Iguess ) would you except them (him/her) to give your gift back???
On a thread a lady mentioned that since they divorced quickly they should have returned the gifts.
I know that I have heard this but honestly I would not expect nor accept them returning my gift..if god forbid any of my friends had the misfortune of this happening the last thing from my mind would be my gift!
Plus how in the middle of a divorce do they figure out the finances and how to get the gift back and all that
Opinions....

I would only expect them to try returning gifts if they had the marriage annulled within those first few months. But after THAT long (1-3 years), how are they even supposed to remember who gave them what? OR still have the boxes they came in. I threw those babies out within the first couple weeks of unpacking. Not only that, but would any of the guests REALLY want their blender back after it's been used daily for the past couple years?? Gross. There's no way you can return it and get store credit anyhow.
But I don't understand this mainly because gifts are only actually given at the shower. If a couple was meant to return every present, then wouldn't they also be obligated to return every dollar they received at the wedding itself? Nobody could afford that. The money is obviously already spent.
I think this is just silly, honestly. If you give somebody a birthday present and the next day (God Forbid) that person passes away - - you would never go knocking on their mother's door demanding that gift to be returned to you.
.... I think if it was MY friends getting divorced, I'd be sad for them and certainly not expect any gift or money returned to me. And i wouldn't accept it if they tried. HOWEVER - I might not be as 'generous' at her next wedding.
