An irate passenger used a broken bottle to slash a Queens bus driver Wednesday and snatch her diamond ring, police said.

Q66 driver Tamika King sat with cops and combed through mug shots after she was treated at Elmhurst Hospital Center.

At around 7:40 a.m., King greeted her first passenger - a Hispanic man in his 30s - at Queens Plaza North and 21st St., police said. He complimented her $1,500 bling: 'Nice ring,' he told her, said cops.

The man sat behind King searching for his fare, but suddenly grabbed her lunch, tucked away under her seat in a brown paper bag. A glass bottle in the bag shattered and the man grabbed a shard, slashed King's wrist and made off with the ring, police said.

Last Monday, police said, B46 passenger Horace Moore fatally stabbed bus driver Edwin Thomas during an argument over a transfer.

That's horrible!!!!

I always think ,when I hear stories like this, that if I were to get mugged< I would want to take my rings off and toss them off to the side without them seeing. That way they could take whatever else they wanted and I could collect my rings afterwards. Of course I think like this now but Im sure if , god forbid, something like that happens I would be too scared to try anything.

This is horrible! Poor woman. I really hate people sometimes.

My husband is a bus operator, working out of the same depot as Tamika.
I do hope that the union finally realizes that operators need some sort of protection from the public. A plexiglass divider like the ones found in taxis would keep them safe.

It's a matter of personal safety, and also the safety of other passengers.
