Credit Advice

My credit is shot but DH still has a chance but his problem is that he has LIMITED credit history. He doesnt have enough so no one will give him a card. Does anyone know what we can do? How can he build his credit if no one will give him a card?!

Re: Credit Advice

I wasn't able to get a CC for the longest time but then I got one (with a low limit) through Orchard Bank (it's through HSBC) and now my credit has improved and everything is paid on time. They also raise your limit once a year (figuring that you're in good standing). They help you if you're unable to do it through traditional means
Since they i've been able to get approved for a lot more (not more CCs though) lol i'm in enough friggin debt

Re: Credit Advice

A guy I used to work with had this problem because he was right out of school and lived with his parents. He got a credit card with a $200 limit and just put his monthly gym membership on it, paid it off each month in full, just to build credit history. After a few months he was able to get the limit increased.

He gets offers all the time in the mail but these cards have like a 50 dollar fee and a limit of 300 bucks. the interest is crazy too. I used to get these cards and I ruined my credit that way. Maybe if he goes to TD Bank and talks to them they can help him out?

Try getting him a gas card. Use it 2x a month or something and just pay it off every month. That will build credit! Or a store credit card, like Macys.

I know the interest ***** and the fee does as wel But this has actually been helping mine. Not sure why but It really has been. Now my limit is a lot higher and my credit has definitely gone up now that I have things open in my name that are in good standing

Don't worry about the interest - just make sure you don't charge a lot - use it 1-2 a month for small things - and pay it off so there IS no interest accumulating, you know?

Thanks girls. I just applied him for a Visa off their website and he was approved. It has no fee so thats good.

Bank Of America, has a secure credit card, so what you do is you put up the amount of money. You can do as little as 100.00. They issue you a credit card which reports to the credit bureaus. Its an easy way to build up some credit. DH did this last year because he had just repaired his credit but no one would give him a credit card, no he gets offers all the time.

That's great! I was going to suggest looking into CCs that you have your bank accounts. My personal accounts are with Bank of America and I have a BOA CC as well.

Re: Credit Advice

easiest way to build a credit history is to get added to someone else's card. I did this with my sister- she had no credit history and couldnt get a credit card- so I added her to my amex, I had it for 10 years, so within a month, she had 10 years worth of history added to her credit report

I actually just read yesterday somewhere that the store cards are the worst to get, they actually lower your score.

Hmmm that's very interesting! I wonder if that's why DH's credit is better now (it was terrible from his divorce - obviously not from me ).
Thanks MB.
