Cruise question
Anyone who has gone on cruises- did you skip the formal nights dinner? DH and I really want to pack light this time and it would really help if we didnt have to pack his suit- shoes and dress and dressy shoes for me.

Re: Cruise question
Formal Night isn't as formal as it used to be ... you can get away with almost anything (your DH can wear dress pants and a button shirt ... he even wear 'em with sneakers lol .... and you can just wear a cocktail dress & flip flops) ...i dont like skipping the 'sit-down' dinners cause those are the most delicious meals

Re: Cruise question
There was a night where we had an excursion during the time that we would normally have set dinner at the main restaurant. We went up the the Cafe that serves all types of food. The food was good, but I thought the restaurant food was hands down soooo much better.I mean it also depends on what cruise you go on. I went on the Celebrity Cruise Summit and their Waterfall Cafe had a variety of foods to choose from and many people opted to eat there.
I heard of other cruise lines that if you skip the formal dining, that the casual dining usually offers the same food day in and day out, so evenually you have to end up going to one of the specialty restaurants to eat something different.

ETA: we only had two formal nights...the rest of the time as long as u didn't dress in sneakers or a tank top you could enter the restaurant.

DH wasnt thrilled with the food in the dining room last time. He is so picky and plain. We noticed alot of the food in the dining room was made with mushrooms and he is allergic. We were thinking of just doing the buffets this time.

I am kinda afraid that the food will be the same all the time at the casual dining.

Re: Cruise question
On the formal nights, we booked reservations at the specialty restaurants. I really enjoyed the formal nights since the rest of the time we spent in shorts and jeans.

Re: Cruise question
depending on the cruise line, you might be able to get the same meal from the dining room through room service ... i think it was royal caribbean that offered that option ...
