I took sauce out of the freezer last night for dinner tonight and I left it on the counter for about 8 hours. It was still cool to the touch when I realized it was still out & put it back in the fridge.
What do we think? Safe or not safe to eat tonight??

Re: Defrosting Sauce
DH makes a big sauce for me once every couple of months & I freeze it in jars. When I need a new jar I take it out of the freezer & leave it in the fridge & then enjoy it for a couple of weeks to come. You should be good to go.

Yes - you are totally fine. My Mom always makes sauce, then freezes it and takes it out of the freezer the night before she wants to use it. The next morning she puts in in the fridge til she warms it on the stove later for dinner that night.
It should be fine. Sauce isn't kept in a fridge or freezer at the supermarket when it's being sold.

That's because the jars are vacuum sealed. They say refridgerate after opening. And actually, Mamma Lombardis market does sell some of their sauces in the refridgerator case.
But to answer the question, yes the sauce is still good.
And to the poster who said they freeze sauce in jars, do you mean glass jars? I would think that since liquid expands when it freezes, that would put the glass jar at risk of shattering. That is why I freeze my sauce (or any food) and freezer safe plastic containers since plastic will stretch/expand.

We use the glass mason canning jars & leave room at the top for expansion. In the last 4 years we have never had a glass jar crack in our freezer.

Interesting to know. I was always afraid to freeze glass.
