i sit here writing this contemplating if i want to stay in my marriage. i know it's only been 4 months since the wedding. they say the first year is the hardest, but i've been miserable for the past 2 years. The moment I realized maybe I shouldn't be doing this, was too late. we paid for practically everything and I just couldn't leave. the problem is, we're in a huge financial mess. i think he resents me for spending money and having alot of debt and now we're paying for it big time. we live with his parents which i hate his mother and don't get along with her. he always defends her and puts her first. i'm his wife for god sake, i should be number 1. it's not even like she babies him or shows him affection. she told him she loved him once in 6 years. maybe longer. we can't move out because our credit is horrible now because of our debt and no one will take us with 2 dogs. his a nypd cop and has alot of overtime and just works alot in general. we never see eachother. he pressures me to try and work more when i work so much i keep going into overtime (i'm a waitress and thats kinda hard to do when our shifts are only 4-5 hours each) and my managers are getting aggrivated and won't let me work any longer than the 40 hours.
he only kisses me goodnight or goodbye (goodnight is starting to fade away) forget about sex, i don't even know what that is. he only tells me he loves me when we get off the phone or when he goes to work. i feel so desperate. i don't know what to do. my heart physically hurts to think of me leaving him and not having him there, but my heart hurts when i'm with him. i can't stop crying over this. i honestly don't know what to do anymore. he just doesn't listen to me and blames me for everything. he makes everything either about money or his mother (he grew up comfortable and when his family doesnt have everything they want, they're miserable a$$holes) i just don't know what to do :(

Re: desperate
I agree with all of the other girls that counseling is probably thebest thing. You both should go alone & together.
May I also suggest that you guys also get financial counseling? I am looking into this myself because with the wedding & DH buying a new car right after the wedding our credit scores went down quite a bit. I want to get our scores back up where they were or even higher with the next year so we can buy a house in 2009.
ETA I am not going to use one of those debt counseling companies, I am going to just go to some one for advice & guidance on the fasatest way to payoff debt fast with out using one of those companies. My credit union offers this service.

First of all, I'm so very sorry you're in this situation -I can't imagine what you're going through but I can say that you're doing the right thing not keeping everything to yourself.
If money is an issue and your DH isn't really agreeable to counseling right now, I agree with the others that you should both try to talk to each other as much as possible and try to get your feelings on the table. Some of those conversations might be really hard but it is still better than assuming you each know what the other is thinking. Even as much as you're both working right now, try to carve out a set time every week to spend together, get out of the house and just talk. Don't be afraid to say exactly how you feel but make a pact to treat each other fairly during each discussion (try not to be confrontational or resentful even if you're both feeling that way). Remind each other of the reasons you love each other, the reasons you got married and the reasons you want to make it work. It will take time so try not to get frustrated.
Financial counseling is a great idea and doesn't have to cost anything. You can talk to your banks and credit card co's about the best ways to establish payment plans and start saving more. Credit and debt counseling can be good as long as you find a reputable company (there are MANY sketchy ones out there for every good one so you need to be careful).
Here is a link to the Federal Trade Commission's consumer information on getting out of debt, picking reputable people to help you, and your rights under federal laws. It might be helpful for you.
Hang in there and remember you can always talk to us!!!

Hmmm... i don't have many words of wisdom...but as far as counseling...can you go to a priest or rabi? I don't think they charge?? There's got to be some free service or group out there....or something similar to AA but for couples???
Just know that we are all here for you and wish you the best!!!
ETA: just did a Google search for 'free marriage counseling' and found several on-line free sites...maybe that's an idea?

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been able to write everyone back. busy with work and yesterday we had the day off together. He obviously didn't want to talk about it. It's still driving me nuts but I'm holding on. I just hope we can resolve things quickly before I start to fall out of love because of everything he's putting me through :( I now realize that alot of people are going through the same thing and if everyone has been able to make it so far, I too will make it. Thanks for all the encouraging messages and all of the help. I'll keep everyone updated when there's actually improvement (or the opposite) xoxo

I am really sorry you're going through this. They say that money issues are the number one cause of divorce - but if you guys can find a way to work through your money issues, that may help mend a big part of the problem. It won't get resolved overnight or even in a year depending on how much the debt is, but you both have to put your part in regarding not spending as much and paying off your debt.
