DH's 30th birthday ideas

DH's 30th birthday ideas

Ok well my plan to take him to vegas looks like it wont work out since that weekend on sunday he has to go away for work so that ruined everything. Some ppl said to do it the week before or week after but its hard considering he'll go away for work and then to go away right before or after its too much time he'll be away from work right now and its busy. Plus i dont think i should take a day off or 2 right now either. If it wasnt for him going away for work i couldve made it work grrrr

So now I am trying to think of Plan B, so thinking I should throw a party. I dont want a catering hall type party or that type of thing. I was thinking of a few things and one thing that came to mind is throwing a party in a suite. I automatically thought of the suite we got for Helen's bachelorette party since it was very spacious, 3 bedrooms, plus 2 1/2 bath, had a separate kitchen area, and very big living room that even has a dining room area it goes right into but can take out that table or put it off to the side and put food on it, and wrap around balcony, i think it was 1500 square feet total either that or it was the other suite that says 2200 sq feet. I dont know if i should keep thinking of other ideas or would this be good? Ive seen parties at a suite go well and then seen it also where it can get boring, but i think i would invite a decent amount, plus maybe get some sort of entertainment lol. But i want it to be real special and good, and just wonder if this would turn out good or not. Maybe do AC and this way invite his friends too since maybe more ppl can go if its closer.

OR other option is to do a big dinner, lets say at buddakan and get the huge table in the middle for everybody, get a table at a club somewhere after or something similar and spend more on a gift for him.

here is the only pic i can find of it, i am too lazy to go through the insane amount of folders i have on my comp to find the pics we took lol

that suite looks really nice! I think the party sounds like it would be lot of fun. Do you have to get special permission from the hotel to have a party, or do you not mention it to them?

well when we got that suite for helens bachelorette party, i think they knew it was for a BP. And we invited a bunch of ppl over and they had no problem with it. I would ask first and say its for a party but im guessing if it wasnt a problem for a bp, dont think it would be for a bday party, well hopefully not. But then i also think of small things like do i invite our parents? i mean im sure it wont be their thing but then how would they feel not to go to his 30th bday party, so would i invite them lol

thats always a tough one, about inviting the parents lol! Maybe you can have a nice classy party for all friends and family, but just invite the close friends to stay over and maybe all go out to a lounge for an after party.

that suite looks awesome! I would go with that....get some really nice catered food, and everyone can mingle/talk/dance. Is that in NYC? Would you mind fming me how much something like that costs?

we did the buddakan thing for my 30th and it was awesome; had that middle table like you said. it was fun b/c my sisters (well 2 of the 3) are rarely in manhattan and they all came with their husbands and really had a good time, and that was just dinner... we didn't really go out afterward because it was a thursday night etc. they have fixed menus - not sure if you've looked into it yet but I think the one we picked was $105 pp.... DH paid for everyone plus the liquor tab so people really loved that!

that's more my thing but I think the suite thing could also be a lot of fun... I didn't invite my parents to mine, but if it was a private room somewhere we might have, not sure.

well most ppl wouldnt stay over i think, we wouldnt have room for everybody lol, but if some needed to stay then yes of course. But dh and i went last year to his friends bday party that his gf threw in a suite and all of us went home after, only 1 couple stayed over. And if i were to get a suite i think we'd stay there since id be paying for it and dont want to go elsewhere after, plus i'd invite about 50ppl so would be hard to all go out after.

yes its the flatotel, its on 52nd street right off of 6th avenue. I was surprised how much it cost bc i thought it'd be alot more, for a suite in manhattan it was actually reasonably priced.

Yeah i was thinking of having food catered if i do this

oh ok didnt know they would do a fixed menu, weve gone to buddakan a few times but just us two or once his brother came with us so we just did regular menu but real good to know, thank you.

Yeah i am trying to think of who id invite and wondering if it'd be a good party if i do the suite lol. Maybe i should hire like belly dancers or something

yeah i don't think you have to do a fixed menu... I think we just decided it would be cheaper and for larger parties they offered them. and it was really good - you know how it's family style; all the choices were delicious and there was plenty of food. this was almost two years ago though so maybe it changed but it's worth calling them. It'll be great no matter what you plan.

love the flatotel; used to have drinks there when there was the outside bar.... loggia or moda or whatever it was called.

yeah the fixed menu is probably better though bc some might go nuts and order way more than that per person lol, so its a good choice, plus its good if you know ahead of time how much youre going to spend

yeah i think its Moda

a nice quaint dinner with closest loved ones and then a night out partying sounds nice.

My DH's 30th is on the 15th...but unfortunately since I lost my job...I think I'll only be able to have cake and drinks at the house with his friends instead of going out or throwing a party at a hall or venue

yeah i am thinking about the dinner thing, my only problem is that he has alot of friends and different groups of friends, he has his astoria friends, howard beach friends, his LI friends that he met in college, then his softball friends. I just think about that many ppl going out together to lets say a club and think it can get a bit hectic, plus i'd invite my friends too, then you throw in SO's and looking at 50 or so ppl. AND he and his friends are used to getting tables at a club and to tell you the truth, to do bottle service at a club for that many ppl will end up being ALOT more expensive than the suite. We would have to get more than 1 table and 1 table alone is $600 minimum and some places higher, plus the $600 is just for 2 bottles and they'll definitely end up getting more so thats what im afraid of. And just the thought of all of us in a club i always think bc a bit much bc not like you can all hang out together when its that many ppl. If it was less ppl i think i wouldve gone with this and maybe get a section at a club

Awwww i am so sorry i know exactly how you feel, i was unemployed for months and just starting tomorrow a new job. Hopefully now after the new year it will be easier to find a job, good luck

i think the suite sounds like a really good idea - especially since you are going to have a lot of people coming out - seems like a good space for people to mingle and hang out....

I like the idea of the suite bc it sounds like your inviting a lot of people so you wont have to worry about exact numbers like at a restaurant which is so much easier

Denise,
If you do a suite party, I know some great caterers that can cater in amazing apps etc!

I don't know if you can work this out with his parents, but I know you said he has a house in the Poconos. Would your friends be willing to go up there for a party? I think it would be really cool to plan a surprise party there for him, but tell him that you want to go there that night and spend time with just him for his birthday and then pretend like you are going to ask people to go out to a lounge or something the night after.

Of course I'd invite his parents....if it's in the Poconos, you'd have a giant slumber party on your hands of course lol Just a thought...

the suite looks amazing and if they allow parties go for it.

I am actually doing a surprise 30th for my DH (Jan 24) Have you thought of a theme?

I am doing a chinese theme. He loves sushi so I am getting that, and making chinese food..printed so many recipes. I ordered fortune cookies, chopsticks, dragons, a cake which looks like a sushi plate...lol

I think if you do a restuarant maybe you can plan to all head out to a lounge afterwards so everyone can dance.

I did like the Pocono's idea, but will there be space for everyone...will his friends mind the drive?

they wouldnt mind if i threw a party there but i wouldnt do it there. If i was gonna invite just a few ppl then i would but i want to invite about 50 ppl or so and to ask 50 ppl to come to the poconos and drive home after would be too much to ask. THe house does have 5 bedrooms and 2 LR's but even that wont be enough to sleep everybody
