Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

I dyed mine red to match a bridesmaid's dress I wore in Oct. I LOVED my shoes - they are so comfortable, so i might as well get use of them. I've worn the red dress 3 times along with the shoes. I imagine I will dye the shoes black eventually once I wear out the gown!

I had them dyed at the same place I bought them - sandy's shoes. Ithink they did them for free, but I can't remember. IMO, I wouldn't dye them yourself, especially if they have already been died an off-white color to match your wedding gown b/c the dye takes differently to the darker shade of white. Well, I guess it's ok if it's black...

good luck!!

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

I'm convinced that as soon as I dye mine black, I'll need some comfortable ivory shoes! As much as I'd like to dye them to get more use from them, I'm thinking I'll keep them in my wardrobe as ivory for a little while longer.

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

I just wanted to add that the shoes I dyed had scattered beads on flowers, sort of like this:

I'm not sure how well a shoe like this:

with a lot of beads that are close together will take the dye

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

Does anyone have info on the shoedyeing place in astoria (address/Phone#)?
Sorry for bringing an old thread back up, but I am willing to try dyeing my kencoles, b/c they are super duper greenish dirty, but very comfy!!! I can always use a pair of black mary-janes!!!

Thank you

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

this may sound strange but I can't find my shoes! The last (and 3rd) time I wore my dress, I had to buy another pair cause I can't find the ones I wore at our wedding!

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

The one in Astoria is probably Dyeing For You. They usually charge you to dye your shoes black if it's the second time you are dying your shoes, even if you bought them there. It's usually only about $5 though.

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

I did get mine done at Dying for You on Steinway Street in Astoria (don't have the number here). They came great (even with my beading) and it being the second dyeing (first ivory - now black). I think it cost like $20-23 and took about 2 weeks. (I had not bought my shoes there originally.)

They warned me to be careful and not wear them in the rain (may run) - so now I have been really nervous to wear them for fear I will have black feet at an event. I have had 2 weddings to attend since I have gotten them dyed and of course it rained for both of them. Hopefully, it will not rain for the wedding I have this Saturday! I can't wait to wear them again!

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

I was seriously thinking about this, but my silly 'aawww but they're my wedding shoes' side keeps me saying no. I'm also afraid with all of the crystals going around them. Do you think it would come out crappy?

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

mine came fine. They were strappy with crytsals in the front. The crytsals are black but look fine. I should try to remember to post a picture for you.

Iam sentimental with my dress but not with my shoes but when I told DH what I did - he was like how can you do that to your wedding shoes and was like awwwww? go figure!

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

I'm glad this thread resurfaced too because I just put my wedding shoes in the closet to collect dust. I never thought about dying them another color to wear again. And the place where I bought them offers free 1st0time dying. Now I have to decide which color to dye them!

Re: Did anyone dye their wedding shoes...

Just a warning - like Niecey said.. don't wear them in the rain or on a hot or humid day, or if you plan to be dancing all night and may get icky feet! I had shoes dyed for my friends's wedding to match the dresses and my feet were all BLUE at the end of the night! It was a gorgeous 80 degree day - not humid or anything. I don't think I wore stockings so it could have just been the sweat on my feet from dancing all night. Just a warning! that was a pain to get rid of too!
