Did anyone have problems travelling with their 'updated' passport after they changed their name?

Original post by CherylBooch

So I paid $40 to change my name only to have them put an 'addendum' in my passport only to still have my maiden name with a 'turn to page 36' on it

Did anyone get problems when going through customs since the agent has to turn to the back of the book?

How do you get the addendum? From what I see online, it says it must be within one year of the issuance of the passport . Does that mean if my passport if 5 years old, I have to get a new one? I really don't want to give up my current passport b/c I like to keep it as a souvenir of my travels - I doubt I'll ever get another 'Fiji' stamp!
Anyone know?
TIAPassport info?

I totally ignored that one year from date of issue thing and went ahead and mailed my original passport and marriage certificate. It came back ammended, no problems.

Same here and it was free!

Damn, ok, nice try. It's a rather detailed form too - I guess that's a good thing.
Thanks!

I can't believe they changed it...that totally stinks for future brides!

I have not changed the name on my passport yet, so it is still in my maiden name. We just went to Paris and my ticket was in my married name. The only person that noticed was the lady that checked us in at CDG airport in France. The person in JFK did not even realize that the names did not match! I brought a copy of our marriage license just in case and had no problems.

So, if you have your married license with you - can you leave it as is?

I'm not changing my name on my passport till it expires in another 3 years. I called the passport agency and they said I'd have to pay the full amount to get a new one so I think I can wait. As long as your tickets match your passport you'll be fine.

Yep. I called the airline just to be sure, but they said it would be no problem as long as I had my marriage license with me.

I changed everything over except the passport. I had to renew right before our HM and with the expedite fees, extra pages it ran me $140. Now I have to go back and have the name changed, just to lazy to go into the city. I don't trust mailing my passport anywhere.

Since my name change (only hyphenated it) I have already ended up on the 'no-fly list'. I fell out laughing in the airport while checking in for a biz trip! Yet I had just came back from an int'l trip 2 weeks prior and have been in and out of the country before and after my wedding at least 8x. Only traveling domestic did I recently get stopped and had to be cleared. On JetBlue of all carriers, go figure!
