Did anyone mail the license in to the SS office for name change?
I'm hesitant to mail in the original marriage license (it says it will be returned) but the office is too far from work to go during work hours. Anyone have problems mailing it in? TIA

I did mine in person. I'm sure it'll be fine, becasue when I did my passport I HAD TO send my ORIGINAL one. And it came back without a problem.

I mailed mine last month. Haven't heard back yet but it should be okay. I'll let you know. In the meanwhile I am ordering another copy just in case.

I would NEVER mail my original to Social Security. They have 'LOST' or 'MEVER RECEIVED' too many important things. I have always brought things in person & gotten a receipt for them. My DH brought my name change info to them on his way home from work one morning for me & got a receipt for everything. I never went! SS was the LAST thing to be done!
