did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary
I'm just venting about our lack of time off and money
This year our schedules are so off from each other and finanacially we are tapped out. (we are both limited on when we can take off from work and trying to save for a house) I want the two of us to get away before we really can't (house, kids and stuff like that) I don't know if I should push him on just going away even if it can't be exactly our anniversary.

I say try to go away! Either on your Anniv or before or after, just go! You deserve it! Even if its for a long weekend!

Re: did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary
We certainly didn't have a romantic first anniversary!
We were married on 4/28/01.
On 4/26/02 we closed on our house in LI then drove back to Boston to finish packing up our apartment.
We packed all weekend, even on our first anniversary, taking a few hours off to go out for a nice dinner, then back for more packing.
Movers came on 4/29, packed up the truck, we drove back to LI and slept on blankets on the floor. Met the movers at 8:30 on 4/30 and we totally overlooked the fact that it was my Birthday till later in the day. Got a birthday hug and we continued unpacking until we fell exhauseted into bed.
Maybe you could find a way to make the day special without having to go away if that's stretching the time and money budgets.

We have two kids and we couldn't go away, so my DH surprised me with a day at the winery's and then a dinner cruise. If you can't get away then go for a nice dinner or cook him a nice romantic dinner. If your strapped don't push yourself there are plenty of other ways to celebrate!!!

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. As much as I would have loved to go back to Hawaii for our 1-year anniversary, it was totally out of the question, financially and time-wise, so we just went out east for 2 nights and stayed at a bed and breakfast. We had a great time and I loved every minute of it!
I used to feel bad when I heard about other couples going somewhere exotic for weeklong trips to celebrate their anniversaries, but thats not necessarily something that everyone can swing.
If you cant get away at all, there's nothing wrong with having a nice dinner, either out or in, and just enjoying each others' company. Its not about money, its about being together.

We were going to go back to Aruba for our one year anniversary with another couple we met when we down there on our honeymoon but I don't think that's feasible since my due date is 8/31 and our anniversary is 9/5!

Our first anniversary we took a weekend and went to a bed & breakfast right outside cooperstown. we kept it to a low budget and had a great time. we did the friday night saturday and came home sunday.
You can even get a hotel room at a local hotel like hampton inn and spend the night and go out to dinner. this gets you away for a little bit.

Before joining LIWeddings, I only heard of couples going out to a nice dinner for their one-year anniversary. Don't feel bad if you can't get away. Go out for a nice dinner or make a nice, romantic dinner for your DH (or vice versa). A weekend away is a great idea as well, if it's feasible.

we were scheduled to take a cruise for our 1-year anniversary. however, i have since quit my job to go back to school full-time. money will be super-tight, so we will probably just do dinner and maybe a quick weekend away or something.

Re: did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary
We had dinner at our reception site where we got married. We only go there from now on our anniversary. It was great to reminsce and renew that wedding bliss feeling. We exchange cards later in the evening. We also got a relicate cake of our wedding cake and ate it in the evening along with our late piece of our 1 year old wedding cake. Early in the day we cleaned the bathroom. Our anniversary is also MIL's birthday where DH didn't wish her a happy birthday, no calls and no e-mails either. She gave DH hell!

I would try to do something, and atleast watch the video and eat some cake. We took a 2 hour road trip to San Antonio for the weekend.

Don't worry about going away....Let your anniversary be a special day no matter where you are. It's all about celebrating your first year of marriage with the person you love...not where you go to celebrate it.
There are plenty of ways to make a day/night special without going way over budget....
-go to a nice restaurant -go get massages together -rent some movies and stay up till your anniversary is 'over' -write him a beautiful letter about how wonderful this first year has been -get him something small, but sentimental that only you and he know the value...
just a few thoughts!

We didn't go away either for our 1st anniversary. We went to our favorite restaurant for a nice dinner instead and watched our wedding video.

We took time off from work and just spent the weekend together. We did go back to the WM for dinner on our anniversary. Sage has some great ideas. Either way, you are going to have a wonderful anniversary - as long as you spend it together.

Re: did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary
Althought I would have loved to jet off someplace fantastic it is just not feasible for us since our Anniversary is 12/29 right after Christmas and since we both live so far away from our families that time of year is usually spent traveling back from a Christmas holiday with no time or $$ to then take a vacation. BUT, like others have said, do not feel like your day is any less special if you don't do something over the top. It is a celebration of you and your husband as a successful and happy couple, so really the only thing you need to make it special is each other. Be it sitting in your pajamas eating pizza or at a fancy resort!
We went to the restaurant where we had our first date and got engaged. So yes it was very special for us without going away. You have to do what is right and best for you and not compare with others too much, because we are all so different, with different home lives, finances and a million other things!

Re: did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary
Don't feel bad!! I was pg during our first anniversary so we had to cancel our plans to go away since I wasn't really in the mood to travel far or do anything crazy. But we drove to Atlantic City just to get away and it ended up being one of our best mini-vacations ever. We were upgraded to a gorgeous suite, won a ton of money and just had a great time.

Re: did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary
We just bought the house so we decided not to do anything extravagant (also we got married near Christmas). But my husband surprised me with a nice weekend stay at the Roslyn Claremont which is local but quite beautiful.

We got take out from a pizza place we love.
The baby was sick so neither of us wanted to leave him.
It was still nice just being with DH. We did watch our wedding video
