did anyone not do anything for their 1 year anniversary

Original post by AmyKay

I'm just venting about our lack of time off and money

This year our schedules are so off from each other and finanacially we are tapped out. (we are both limited on when we can take off from work and trying to save for a house)
I want the two of us to get away before we really can't (house, kids and stuff like that)
I don't know if I should push him on just going away even if it can't be exactly our anniversary.

We went out to dinner and enjoyed our cake as we watched our video.

I don't think that you need to go away to truly celebrate your anniversary or make it memorable in any way...

Why not plan something intimate and romantic at home? you don't need money to do this.. Make his/your favorite meal, slip into something sexy, rent a movie, sprinkle some rose petals on the bed, or perhaps you can take a nice long walk.. you can do anything..

We had initially planned to go on a cruise for our 1 year but then we had our baby and decided we didnt want to leave her and she was too young to bring with us so we opted out of the cruise idea. My husband planned a couples massage at a spa in Port Washington and dinner at Burton and Doyles steak house however, it was the weekend of the big blizzard 12/7/03 so everything was cancelled. Last year at my wedding we had also had a blizzard 2 days before, I hope this isnt becoming a trend for every year!

We just bought the house so we decided not to do anything extravagant (also we got married near Christmas). But my husband surprised me with a nice weekend stay at the Roslyn Claremont which is local but quite beautiful.

We are in the same situation and plan on doing this too.

We’re not going to do anything “big” for our 1 year anniversary… our little bundle of joy is expected to arrive in about 3 weeks, so I can’t picture leaving her with anyone. We usually always celebrate our “1st date” by going to the same restaurant that we went to and hanging around in Tompkins Square park… but that’s only 2 days before our anniversary… so we’ll see…

I agree with the other posters in the fact that there are so many other things you can do without traveling.

Be creative

I was about 3 weeks post partum for our 1 year anniversary, so we were both pretty exhausted from adjusting to a newborn in the house! But, DH went to work as usual that day, and I cooked a nice dinner for the two of us, we ate our wedding cake for dessert and then we just hung out and watched our wedding video after the baby fell asleep. Honestly, it couldn't have been more perfect.

Who says you have to go away.

Get some kinky lingerie, some whip cream, a wig and call it a night.

You can have fun just the 2 of you at home, make an exotic dinner, have some drinks and celebrate your 1 year anniverary
