Did anyone put an earlier time on their invitation in order to make sure your guests were on time?

Okay, this is sort of a spin off to the other question I asked about being late to the wedding.

In my, everyone always says that weddings never start on time. I have to be on time for my wedding (the church instituted a new policy of charging a late fee if the ceremony is delayed) but I'm scared that my guests won't be there on time. My ceremony is at 4pm, but I'm thinking about putting 3:30 or 3:45pm. My FH says no that I should put 4pm and whoever is not there well too bad. But, I'm scared af walking down the aisle to an empty church.
Any advice. Maybe I should spread the word that we are have to be on time to my guests........

Personally, I just did 15 minutes as to not be rude to the people that were there on time. JMO

I wrote 11:15 on the invite and the ceremony really started at 11:30am.

I think that is extremely rude to do to your guests. I would be furious if I had to wait a half hour for a wedding to begin just to accomodate late-comers.

I would just put the time that you plan on having the ceremony/wedding start at. People are pretty good about arriving on time at the wedding. And even if they are late you will not be aware of it, unless its like I think that Volkswagon commercial where the guy arrives at the wedding just as the minister says 'speak now or forever hold your peace'.

Here's a slightly different opinion...I probably wouldn't care if people were a little late to my reception. But I didn't want people walking in mid-ceremony. My ceremony was at our reception hall and I KNEW that everyone I know comes late to everything so I put 5pm on the invite when the ceremony started at 5:30. Well of course many many strolled in at 5:45 and 6pm. For those that did come at 5, I had the hall serving drinks, champagne, etc. I do not think this is unusual. I am always on time, and I've never been to a wedding where I haven't had to 'wait' until the ceremony started. I guess that's my punishment for being on time!
