Did you make your money back?

Did you make your money back?

I know that no one makes the full amount back and the general rule of thumb is that if you make back what you spent on catering that you did well...

My DH and I paid for our WHOLE wedding ourselves...so my mom was overly generous with her gift...including that, we ended up making back more than what we spent on:

Catering
Band
Flowers
Photog

Once you include all the little things of course we didn't actually 'make' anything but in conversation with a friend the other day, I realized how lucky we were. She had a 100 person wedding out on the North Fork and only made back around 9k. I would have died if we got 9k in gifts. We literally spent every last cent we had before the wedding and its nice to have something to pay bills with now! I can't imagine if I was in her situation

The $$ spent on the hall was all made back... But thats about it... Most guests gave the usual appropriate amount, but of course you have those few that surprise the crap outta you...

My mom still wants to kill me bc we didnt write down what everyone gave us... We were on the plane to the HM opening the cards (dont ask) and no one around us had a pen

I think its better off not remembering the gifts people gave... I'll be less tempted to be a cheapskate at their own wedding/their children's

We ended up “making” about $10k… but that’s only bc DH’s family paid for our RH and my mom paid for our photographer so we were very lucky.

Same here...and very close relatives at that!

It was quite sad

We did not make back what we spent on the RH. However, we did make enough to cover the money we owned on our CC, which we had put some wedding items on.
You are right, some people will surprise you. The only person we got nothing from (not even a card) was my Dad's cousin who can very well afford it.
And DH's boss gave us $1500, we both almost passed out.

We made back what we spent on the RH enough to cover the flowers and DJ. In the end we made back over 1/2 the total cost of the wedding including hm and all the little extra stuff I bought.

We were both pleasantly surprised at how well we did.

No not even close. But my parents paid for the wedding so we do have money to spend now. But if they had just given us that money (which they offered) we would be sitting pretty.

Yes, can someone please explain this to me??? We had a couple of people who didnt bring gifts. One explained that they were strapped for cash and there gift would be on its way. Probably wont happen but at least they mentioned someonthing. Another, a pretty close friend, never said a thing, and in fact didnt respond to my email telling her we didnt recieve a g ift and we wanted to make sure it didnt get lost (since she was a close enough friend I felt comfortable telling her this, although I know popular etiquette says you shouldnt) .. anyway I never heard back from her on that topic. Have spoken to her a couple of times since and no mention...
What would you make of that???

Re: Did you make your money back?

We made back more than our hall. We paid for our wedding entirely on our own so we were very grateful. Alot of our friends and close family were very generous so I guess that made up for guests who gave less.

Also, if you consider bridal shower gifts and engagement party, I feel that I made back more than we spent.
