Did your band/DJ...

Did your band/DJ...

cover ALL the music you requested?

I am only asking b/c I went to a wedding recently and the bride was annoyed that he didn't even play half the dance song choices she provided.

I guess we don't realize how 'few' songs are played in a four hour time slot.

I think out of 26 songs we gave him, he didnt play two. SO I can't complain. If he didnt play most of the songs I requested, but everyone was on the dance floor having fun, I wouldnt've worried about it. The DJ's job is to make sure that the dance floor is always crowded.

Oh absolutely. It's also the people themselves that have to make a good time. Some will just sit and enjoy the food, guests, and not dance at all no matter what music is on.

Ugh NO they didnt. Actually I dont think they played even 2 of the songs I gave them. We paid like $$3165132156132 for this band too. HOWEVER, I was the only one that noticed and it doesnt even matter b/c the dance floor was so packed the whole night, I didn't care. And I mean it was PACKED.
I'm still getting compliments and rave reviews on how amazing my band was.

They covered basically NONE of the music we requested.

I had 2 must must must plays and they did that. Then out of our list of 20 songs they did a lot of them but not all and I didn't care because they were a great band and kept the party going! They also said to let them figure out the flow of music and how to keep things going so we trusted them and they rocked!

Also at one point DH wanted a certain song played to get his aunt up and dancing and they went right into it! Like within 1 minute - he was so impressed!

I have a similar issue with my band. They got a new singer right before my wedding and failed to tell me that they wouldn't be doing a lot of the songs I requested because the new guy, I assume, didn't know them yet. They played songs I specifically requested they didn't, and there were 3 songs on the MUST PLAY list, songs they were supposed to learn FOR US - and they played none of them. I was PISSSED -- the new singer didn't even sing our wedding song correctly (he was ok, just screwed up some of the melody a bit) -- but they did a great job with what they did play and everyone loved them. So, I didn't address it really - but it kinda got me a little mad that day.

We gave the DJ a huuuge list (like 80 songs). It was wayyy to many but we didn't know. So some songs didn't get played.

Yes, but I should have given them more!

I have to say our DJ was great. He played pretty much every song on the list that I gave him.

I honestly didn't even notice lol I noticed a few songs like the cake cutting song and entrence songs obviously, but other than that I didn't care.

Yes, they played everything I had requested (including Tim McGraw & some other country songs during dinner time. lol. It made me sooo happy).

The only thing that they DIDN'T do was the Anniversary/Generation Dance that i had wanted. I think they just forgot & ran out of time. I didn't even realize until the end of the night when I was handed back the bottle of wine I had set aside as a gift to the winner. Oh well.

My DJ did not play ONE song off of my Must Play list. I was pissed.

Our DJ played everything I put on the must play list except 1 song that I actually thought was pretty important that he didnt get in.
The Tarantella. Both our familys love to dance to that.

He apologized at the end of the night and said he couldnt find a way to squeeze it in.

What can you do....

Re: Did your band/DJ...

The only specifics we requested were the 80's bar happy hour songs we wanted. they did 2 mixes during the night and included all or almost all of them. The only other specifics were parent dances, first dance, cake cutting etc. Otherwise we just gave guidelines of what type of music we wanted and didn't want. When they are mixing I think it is hard to be exact because they need to flow the songs together so they have to know about the beats per minute to get the songs to flow into eachother and when you are limiting the songs they can use, that makes it really hard i imagine.

Nope! Our DJ totally disregarded everything we said. The only requests he played were the important ones. i.e. cake, first dance, dance with our parents.

Everything else he felt like he had carte blanch and did the conga line, when I specifically told him not to!

ETA: DH & I spent 4 hours picking songs and making play lists for the whole day. The DJ assured us he would stick to the list and play everything on it. Needless to say he lied.

Our DJ picked and chose which songs we picked to include. Half of the songs we didn't even request.

Re: Did your band/DJ...

We had a list of about 40 songs and prob only 2-3 didn't make it so they threw in their own mix and it rocked our wedding!! If the band/DJ doesn't have the full list email to them or fax, chances are they are going to forget to bring it with them. I made sure they had the full list on the day before my wedding so all of the songs we loved got covered.
