Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

My mother in law did not help out with anything, but yet she wanted to add people to our list that we didn't know.

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

That seems to be a common problem.

My MIl contributed a little over 4k plus misc expenses so closer to 5k. We are thankful for it. But trust me when I say..the way things added up..it was not even half the cost.

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

FILs didn't offer SQUAT in terms of money (they're millionares)....

But sent us a 'guest list' (didn't ask for one) with tons people we didn't know. She even broke it down in tables for us. What a dear! But she didn't include ANY of DH's friends and some of DH's mom's family (this is his stepmom...)

Guess what? These 'unknown' people didn't get invited. DH and I paid for EVERYTHING -- so we get final say on the guest list!!!!

This is such a sore subject for me! I could write a book about it

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

My ILs are great! They helped with the wedding, not really in a financial sense (DH and I paid basically for 100% of it) but they were great with picking out favors with me, wrapping favors, etc.
I am very lucky to have wonderful ILs!

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

My IL's paid for our honeymoon. They also helped with my programs and stuffed my invitations with me and helped with the favors. I was very lucky.

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

She paid the deposit to our photographer and florist. She also gave us $5K to spend toward whatever we needed.

And she paid for the rehearsal dinner, of course!

She's a very generous lady!

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

Our inlaws were wonderful to us. I tried to include my MIL in my planning bc DH is her only child. She was so appreicative. Don't get me wrong, she did get on my nerves at times (I guess everyone did..lol) but we had a great time planning.

They gave us approx 12K towards the wedding. On top of that, MIL threw us a pre-wedding luncheon here in Chicago for the people who couldn't come to NY for the wedding. I know she spent about 3K for that.

Re: Did Your Mother Law help with the Wedding?

My ILs did nothing, but they are not in a position to contribute financially. I was totally fine with it, because it meant there were two less opinions that I had to hear and probably disagree with!
