Re: Dividing Holiday Question
thanksgiving is always difficult... we basically have to chose between DH's and my family....
christmas is easy. Poles (DH) and germans (my mom) celebrate on the night of the 24th, so we all go to his family... the americans (my fathers family) celebrate on the 25th.....
the irritating part of christmas is that we never get time at OUR HOUSE! what the heck?

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
Last year we did Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve with DH's family, and Christmas with mine. This year will be the reverse. Dh is not happy about not spending Christmas with his family!! This will be his first time away from his family during this holiday!!

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
If I get sick this winter, hopefully it is the day before xmas eve. That is usually when we see DH's family, because his sister from Maryland comes in. We usually split them up and alternate Thanksgivings and see both sides on Xmas.

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
the day before thanksgiving we do with DH dad, thanksgiving we normaly have it with my family and his mom and brothers at my MIL house but this year its either looking like MIL house for dinner and my moms for dessert. or my mom dad and brother over here, we are waiting to see because DH isnt speaking with his mother at the moment and i know this sounds bitchy but i hope it stays that way if you only read my MIL post x-mas eve his dads then my parents, x-mas his mom in the AM and my parents in the PM

That's a good idea for Thanksgiving!! A good trade-off!! DH's family does an early dinner and mine a later dinner. I hate doing 2 dinners!! That is such a great way to spilt the holiday -- why didn't I think of that
Same here -- Christmas Eve is with my family and Christmas Day with DH's

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
Well the only holiday we really 'divide' is Christmas...
last year we flew home to my family early and stayed until like dec 27, and then had a late christmas with DHs family, and this year we'll spend xmas with dh's family and have a late xmas with mine.
It sux, but thats the only way really...until we have kids and start having christmas here.

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
last year was a nightmare for us with regard to the holidays. We went to 3 different thanksgivings, in 3 different states, over 3 days, and it was AWFUL. We had no fun, it ******! So, this year, we are taking off to Paris for Thanksgiving. After that, each family gets one holdiay. Thanksgiving will be one and Passover the other. Those are really the only two holidays celebrated in our family.

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
DH and i have it fairly easy, since his family is catholic, and mine is jewish - we decided to alternate years for thanksgiving, and spend the day after with the other' family

Re: Dividing Holiday Question
My family usually celebrates on odd days. Like Easter on Saturday, so it actually makes it a bit easier.
