DMV Name Change Problem - Advice, Anyone?

DMV Name Change Problem - Advice, Anyone?

I finally began the name change process 13 months after my wedding. Social Security was a breeze, and I changed the card to 'first middle maiden married', no hyphen. I went to the DMV this weekend, and I was given a hard time for trying to change to 'first middle maiden married' and was told that if the marriage license says 'new surname: married' then that is all i can change it to, despite the fact that i had a valid social security card to back-up my request. the dmv clerk then advised that i needed 6 points of proof in order to change the license to 'maiden married' as i wished, and she handed me the paper with the points of proof chart. if that is true, then it would folllow that i should change my passport to what my SS card says, for a total of 6 points, and then it seems i will be able to change my license as such.

this all sounds promising, but i'm wondering if the passport office will also give me a hard time for trying to change to 'maiden married'...has anyone out there been in a similar situation or know of a way around this? i'd rather not drop my original middle name to allow for the maiden name,...i just want all four names...is that asking too much?? TIA!

I was told that you could not to that unless you got a court order. I wanted to be First Name Maidenname Marriedname and I didn't put it on my marriage certificate, so I have to go by Firstname Middlename Marriedname.

This all sounds insane to me...people do this ALL the time...they hyphenate, they drop the middle name, they make up new names completely. In reality, all you are doing is ADDING a last name....unlike how I will be doing it where I am deleting one and adding another (first, middle, newlastname)...which is the 'traditional' way and in reality, is more of a change than an addition like you ladies are speaking of.

IDIOTS. do as you wish and to hades with them!!!!

I made my maiden name my second middle name at SS... not problem there... at the DMV, they never print out your middle name anyway, so I just put my first middle initial there...
