Do I have to go?!?!?!? VENT!!!!

My mil's best freinds daughter is getting married. Lets call her 'Maria'
Before my own wedding I had never met Maria but my MIL insisted that the whole family be invited including Maria and her fiance. One night DH slipped and I found out that a few years ago my MIL had tried to set DH and Maria up. Ok I was annoyed for a second but then found it kind of funny.

One of my best freinds 'Jessica' was a bridesmaid in my wedding. Little did I know Jessica and Maria know eachother from when they were younger and from beauty school.
Maria not knowing Jessica and I knew eachother one day Jessica and started to gossip about ME - she never said my name but it went something like ' Oh I have to go to this stupid wedding...can you believe the girl got knocked up before she was even engaged and now there having this big wedding.. I don't know why they are even bothering his family is so embarassed about it ( SO NOT TRUE!!!) ETC. ETC.

How STUPID must she have felt when she was sitting at my wedding and saw Jessica walk down the aisle as one of my bridesmaids!!!!!!
I was wondering why she had a weird face on all night!!!!

She talked all this junk about me before she had even ever MET me, then went on to beg her mom to ask my mil where I got the slippers for my wedding, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Anyway I JUST found this out yesterday. Her wedding is next week and I DO NOT want to go even though we already RSVP'D yes.

ETA: And my MIL now expects me to go shopping for a new dress for Marias big fancy wedding?!?!?!?! PUH-LEASE If I even DO go she is lucky if I brush my hair and put on makeup!!! I am not spending a penny for this girls wedding

Well, if she said that stuff before she met you, chances are she heard it from her mother, right? So maybe her mother implied that either she didn't approve of you two having a baby before the wedding or she had caught that vibe at one point from MIL?

In any case, looking bad at her wedding is only a reflection on you. It won't matter to her day one way or the other, so I say look as hot as you can and let her know how happy YOU are! Have fun!

I didnt mean literally brush my hair lol but for everyone's wedding I go all out and get my hair done, get my makeup done, buy a new outfit etc. etc.

Well, I certainly wouldn't go 'all out' for her wedding...giftwise!

Honestly you DON'T have to go. You know that. But the real question is - is the backlash from you RSVPing yes and then being a no-show worth it? Will your MIL get on your case about it? Will Maria then just continue to talk stuff about you to mutual acquaintances/family, etc? Do you want to deal with that.... or would you rather suck it up for one day and go play nice at her wedding?

If you don't think there'll be any backlash and it will give you more satisfaction not to go, then you can skip out... but, don't cut your nose off to spite your face.

Well DH made me promise that I will go anything... I will be arriving late ( not out of spite but b/c Joe can't get off of work early on a holiday weekend) and we will be leaving early ( Ok well this one is just cuz I don't want to be there!)
Having a baby is THE BEST excuse!!!!

It sounds like it could be sour grapes - maybe she had a thing for DH and was jealous of you before even meeting you. I would probably go to keep the peace with the inlaws. And if you do, look fabulous - That is always the best way to one up her

I would go and eat as much as I possibly could of the most expensive stuff at her wedding. I would also ask for multiple slices of cake and take food home with me.

I would stick wine bottles up my dress if I could figure out how to get them out of the place w/o someone seeing.

I would even go as far as going up to the cake before the cake cutting and swiping my finger across the icing. I can be really mean...
