Do people really get offended?baby related

So, I've had some amazing people in my life offer barely used items to me for Baby Boom...

And last night, my mothers neighbor came by and knocked and told her 'Please please do not get offended, but I have this and I know you will be watching the baby a few days and will need things here, would you like them?'

My mom was so excited. A barely used jumper, cradle, you name it...

My question is- Do people really get offended by someone wanting to give them used baby items?

I dont know, maybe I'm different, but I call it a blessing- espesially with DH and his new job, all the extras we can get surely helps us...esp since we need three sets of everything for the baby (In laws, moms and our house)

What do you girls think?

No way. I think it is so generous! Why would anyone get offended? If something is in good condition and can be used, I think it is so great. I told my sister to save all of her stuff, so that when I have a baby I can use hers, or at least give it to my mom to have at her house when she watches the baby.

my aunt gave my mom a pack and play, swing, and walker for her house!!
i think thats the best way to do it when you need soo many sets! instead of lugging everything over to your parents or inlaws they have their own set without spending a bunch of money!

Not at all! I think that's very generous of people to offer their things that they don't use anymore! I would not be offended if it was me!

I wouldnt be offended...some ppl might get offended if they are doing it out of pity or because you dont have enough money....but hey babies are expensive!!!

My motto is, (esp if it's like new) - if it's for free, it's for me! I grew up in an era where I got hand me downs from my 2 older cousins - from clothes to shoes & sometimes even makeup - I used to love when I would get a new bag/box of stuff...but then again I wasn born w/ a silver spoon in my mouth. My dad worked - my mom stayed home & raised me & my brother & did not start working until I was 18 & my brother was 16. She made/sewed a lot of our clothes & halloween costumes when we were very young & it really made me appreciate whenever I got something new. So I think it is VERY kind-hearted & generous for someone to offer stuff like that! If DH & I already had a child I would offer my stuff to you Jenny - or to any other NW who might need it - but that's just the way I am.

I am actually passing on a few wedding things of mine to my cousin getting married in May. Believe me having gone through a wedding & the cost of all the little details - I have an even more profound respect for those who want to donate & I try to do so whenever possible.

I would not be offended whatsoever!!!!

In fact, I hope that when I do get preggers, that my SIL will GENEROUSLY 'lend' her bugaboo camelon!!!!!

Thats how I feel. Okay good. My nmom said she thinks its because in this era people tend to think that new is the way to go... and blah blah- But, I mean, I understand new in certain aspects but I know babies out grow things before theyre over used lol

And laurie- I love u...Have i ever mentioned how lucky i feel to have met you on these boards? Everyone should have a laurie in their lives<3

I dont know anyone who would be aoffended. Its so needed when you have your mother or someone watching them at another house. Buying duplicates really stinks ill take the hand me down! lol But i have to admit i really like the new stuff too! : )

Well, half the things I own home wise are my parents (kitchen table and chairs, decorative end table, my old bookshelf from my bedroom...) so I have no problem with hand me downs. I'd even reuse some of our old baby things when that time comes, but I'll probably have all boys, and I don't know how DH will feel about handing down my My Little Ponies to them

Since you're not offended, I got a coupon in the mail for Buy Buy Baby today (why? no clue...). I clearly have no use for it, so if you'd like I can bring it Sunday for you.

I would totally not be offended!!!!!!!!! We have friends of ours saving lots of baby stuff for when we're pregnant.

I figue the more hand me downs we get, it will balance out for the BUGABOO STROLLER!!!!!!!!! Because I want one of those when I'm a mommy!

Plus I feel like babies and kids grow out of things so fast wy not? We figure it will give us more money to put into savings for when it gets older.

One of the guys from work has brought me all his wifes maternity clothes, an activity mat and a bunch of baby clothes, etc. I thought it was so nice of him to think of me and to offer these things. When he asked if I would want them I was like heck yeah!

I would not be offended at all! As it is I have bins and bins of baby clothes Ive gotten from my famiy and friends. I actually had to tell them I couldnt take anything else yet....it was kinda freaking me out that I was gonna have so much baby stuff in my house and I wasnt even pregnant yet But I so totally agree that it is such a blessing!!

Most people give with a genuine heart so you wouldnt feel offended ...... the only time I would be offended is if the peoples intentions were not good.

Jenny that is awesome! I would not be offended whatsoever! The less you have to buy the better. I am always very accepting and giving of hand me down stuff.. If someone else could use it then WHY NOT!

I think some people get offended maybe when they dont know where the stuff came from or who used it before them?

I think the reason why people would THINK others would be offended is because some mothers only want new things for their baby because of germs, etc.

My sister used to run a day care and got a lot of toys, jumpers, pack n plays, etc from parents of kids she watched and some parents only wanted their kids in their things due to germs, which is understandable.
