do you agree w/ this statement about wedding rings?
It seems like 10 years ago, most people got plain gold wedding bands, maybe with a few stones, maybe plain. But now it seems like everyone wants an eternity band as soon as they get married----or they want something with diamonds in it. I don't know if it's the whole bling obsession. Lots of people used to get plain metal bands. Now not so many. And if they do, they get the plain one as an extra.
I'm not evne talking about the fact that more people buy platinum now, I'm just wondering if anyone sees the change as far as people wanting diamonds all over themselves!!!
My wedding band is a small, dainty pave eternity band.

I agree with that...but my mom had a solitaire e-ring and a diamond eternity band...I always loved its simplicity...even though it is a little blingy. And guess what I have?! Although, my band is only half round with diamonds; 9 diamonds around so it looks like eternity but is more comfy than having diamonds on the bottom.
But yes...I think due to society and celebs and all these flashy rings (that never end up in marriage, anyway, it seems--at least in Hollywood!) young women today want to emulate that a bit. And girls just love our diamonds. Someone I work with commented on just that, though...how today girls have such 'flashy' rings.

I agree.
I work with two women who have rings that you could ice skate on but do not own a home One's engagement ring is at least 3.5 carats and her eternity band is about 3 carats round but she is STILL renting and complains about it every day.

I agree. most people who got married years ago have plain yellow gold wedding bands, especially the men.
my mom has a not so plain wedding band, it's very ornate but no stones. for her 40th anniversary she decided it was time for something new, so she got a 5-stone wedding band. that's what I have as my first ring, but mine has bigger diamonds.
I honestly think it's more of a NY thing. diamonds are everywhere around here. it's also what the stores are selling.

we got married with white/yellow gold bands. That's all that was left in the budget- but we got a STEAL on them. They are solid 18k gold by Movado.
But, for our 1st Xmas, DH got me a diamond band.

It is definitely a trend to have more flashy rings. But, I love and wouldn't trade mine.

Dh and I have plain yellow gold bands that I bought 6 years ago in the Philippines. They have a lot of sentimental value.

Us too. I actually picked out the band on purpose, I wanted a plain one. I guess we're in the minority

i definitely agree with that rings today are flashier- i think its just that people see the pictures in all the magazines and all the stars have them, so thats what people want, too.... lol i have to admit i'm guilty of it- LOL my first e ring setting was a solitaire platinum band and i LOVED how simple it was. but after we were engaged about 9 months, i fell in love with a set that was more 'flashy' , and i upgraded. so now my e ring has pave set tiny diamonds in the sides, and my wedding band also has pave diamonds halfway around- my parents hvae been married 30 years, and my mom doesnt' even wear her e ring anymore- she just has a plain white gold band.... so i definitely think the flashiness is growing...

it's funny..I wanted a plain wedding band but when we went to buy our rings the plain bands ddin't look good with my ring.
My wedding ring has 7 diamonds but they are really tiny. I love it! I also love my mom and DHs mom's wedding rings. They both have solitare e-rings with plain wedding bands. I would have been happy with that, too.

I agree with your statement Kerie. In fact, people were rather surprised when they DIDN'T see bling flashing from my hand next to my e-ring as DH and I have plain matching platinum bands. We didnt do it to match, thats just what he wanted. I will eventually get an eternity band I suppose but it sure as heck on the top of the list of priorities. The more debt we have, the longer it will be before we have kids.
This is my hand with my rings. You can't say that my e-ring looks lonely!
Re: do you agree w/ this statement about wedding rings?
It is interesting! I definitely like when the center stone of the e-ring is the focus, not when other stones on the w-ring or e-ring drown it out. However, I like e-rings with side stones and not true solitaires (I guess I like a certain proportion??). And I prefer bezel set e-rings. For wedding bands I don't have as many particular likes and dislikes. I like many different styles both with and without stones.

Re: do you agree w/ this statement about wedding rings?
I agree. Almost everyone has an eternity band these days or a wedding band with 3 - 5 stones across the top.
When we decided to have our bands made every jeweler we spoke with was in shock that I did not want an eternity band. Many tried to convince me to ask for an eternity band
Our bands were custom made for us DH and I initially wanted to incorporate his family love knot (traced back to 1808 to the Congo Region of Africa where his family originates) into my engagement ring but the jeweler we initially met with convinced me not to do it.
I sent the photos of DH’s family symbol and ideas of what I would want for our rings to HLC Jewelry Masters and they made our bands
We are thrilled with our rings and they are very meaningful to us. I think our bands are just amazing and there is not one diamond on either of them

Us too. And it wasn'' even a money thing. We wanted to match.
And my e-ring is smallish, and I picked it out myself & it was at the low end of what we budgeted, but I just liked it.

$$$ wasn't an issue for us either. A big part of it was for religious reasons. It was required that my ring be a simple gold ring, no markings (which includes no engravings), there were to be no interruptions in the ring (no beginning, no end). DH's ring could have been as ornate as he wanted. If I wanted, we could have used the plain band for the ceremony and I could have had a diamond band for after. HOWEVER, I would not want to not wear the ring I was married with. So, DH got a plain band to match mine.
