I have tried countless times to form some kind of relationship with SIL. She has made it very obvious that she is unwilling to even be friendly towards me. At first I thought if I gave her time to accept that I didnt 'steal' her brother away, but that I wanted to be friendly with her too, that she would be come around. After 3 years, and after this weekend where she was openly rude to me in front of her parents (my inlaws), I am done. I will be courteous to her but thats it. Im done trying to include her in things, done offering her help for her own wedding, Im done.

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
I have two SIL's - they are both very sweet to me, and have always been kind and warm. One I get along with so much better than the other. I think its just a personality thing.
One of them is just my kind of girl - down to earth and really cool - we get along great and I love her and her husband. The other is not so much my kind of person (very loud, negative, says really obnoxios things, lays guilt trips on everyone for not calling her every week, and basically hates life and takes it out on everyone around her.) She is 13 years oldrer than me and has 3 kids, so we don't have much in common, but she wants to be my friend and gets really mad if I don't call her back right away. I think she is really protective of her baby brother and it comes out in weird ways...
thats too bad about your SIL. I would just say to give her NO reason to act like that (it sdoesn't sound like you do) but just kill her with kindness and her evil-ness will become evident to everyone. You have to feel sorry for her - people like that are just really insecure deep down.

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
I have a BIL and step-BIL and yes, I get along with them. They're both young - one is 14 and the other is 21.
Sorry to hear that your SIL is such a biatch! Just ignore her and try not to let her get to you!
On the outside yes, but inside I get the feeling she hates me. She loves her brother so much I think because he moved out with me when she was only 15, she feels like I stole him away. And then on the wedding day, the BMs had shawls and I specifically said to wear them on their arms and after I get my proofs back what do I see??? On the neck like a scarf... I saw it a few times that day and said something but somehow the shawl always went back around the neck. Why? I dont know... I have never said anything about it to her though.

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
I don't have a brother, so me and my BIL get along really well; he's like the younger brother I never had.
SIL and I get along great, too, and since she has 2 brothers and no sister, I hope she can one day feel like I'm that sis she never had. Right now, I'd say we're just really, really good friends. She's an awesome person whom I respect and was a wonderful helper, friend, and bridesmaid during our wedding planning.
I think these type of family relationships only develop and appreciate with time. I've never believed in 'fast' friendships so I guess that's just how I am...my opinion.

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
My BIL lives in another country, so I don't see him much. Overall, we get along, but he is truly an 'executive' (he is in upper management for Dell so I usually get his businessman persona. The only time he really let loose was our wedding when he was catching up with some old friends who were there and they were all drinking and dancing.
My SIL (my brother's wife) is nice and seems friendly, but seems very competitive. They had a very short courtship, so I really feel like I hardly know her. And they are planning on moving out of state so we will see what happens with our relationship.

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
DH is an only child.
I do have a brother. He's divorced now. His wife was 7 years older than me, so I was a kid when he first met her. I liked her back then, but then she was a piece of crap and she and I had it out. Ever since then, she's been very respectful and cordial toward me. But, they're divorced now, so I almost never see her- only if she drops the kids off to visit with me or something like that.

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
Luckily, my SIL is 6 years old and I love her dearly...I also had the honor of naming her so should she grow up to be a brat I will use that to my advantage.
But my DH's brother's wife is another story. We have had our share of fallouts through the years...mostly I think due to competitiveness and petty jealousy. I know it's hard to include someone whom you know is being 'different' toward you. I can totally sympathize and know it's a tough situation since you see this person a lot during the year and at every important family event. For my sanity, I decided to be civil and myself (honest, blunt, not going to sugar coat anything) but will do my best to be 'normal' and not purposely ignore her (which seems to bother her as she needs a lot of attention). I hope you find a happy medium!

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
So far both my SIL have been great. They welcomed me into the family right from the start and we get along great. Actually DH's whole family has been so nice. Im so greatful because I've heard some horror stories, my mom has quite a few!

DH has two sisters. I get along with them well... on the surface. One is great but the other one, I'm not quite sure about. Honestly, I think she's a big phony and the whole family bows to her .
My sister's husband, has been my BIL for 21 years. He's like a real brother to me. Sometimes we get along, other times I want to kill him!

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
I actually get along really well with my BIL(FH's twin) and his wife (my SIL)... we see them all the time and I also think because my FH is a twin and they are SOOOOO alike, personality and all that that is one of the reasons I get along with his brother so much...lol... at first my sil and I werent that close, it took us a while to learn each other's personalities and to loosen up with each other, but we've come to form a really great bond and now talk everyday and she was a bridesmaid and was amazing during my wedding planning and wedding! It brought us even that much more closer! So you never know what will happen in the future!! Good Luck!

Re: Do you get along with SIL/BIL?
DH has two half-siblings. The sister is eh. She's very negative and has some serious social issues. Her husband is just non-existent. And he calls me Elaine . The brother is nice, he just really needs to grow up. DH is defintely the best of the three. BIL is getting engaged in 2 weeks to a great girl so I'm looking forward to having her as a SIL.
On my end, 2 of my brothers and my sister are married. Love them all!! They've all been around since I was so young that they're more like additional brother and sisters than in-laws.

I absolutely adore mine! My SIL is 42 with 5 kids and the best - I consider she and I very close.
My BIL is 40, not married but we get along great as well.
