We rent. I would rather not rent but right now we have no choice. DH is a freelancer (for only about a year and half and it's now really picking up) and I don't think a mortgage lender would give us a loan. It's unfortunate.

We are probably going to be renting till after the baby is born. It seems more logical but we do have to fix up a lot in here.

wow, that's a great deal! was it a foreclosure?

Yes! DH gutted the whole thing and redid it. Its a small house but we could eventually put an extension on it if we wanted to.

DH and I each bought our apartments before we met-

I say owning is absolutely the way to go-unless you can find rent that's super reasonable and will allow you guys to bank alot of money to get into a house faster.

we 'rent' MIL's 2nd floor apartment. it angers me. esp bc she spends the rent she charges us on CRAP.

we are in the process of buying our first house. first real estate purchase for both of us. so nervewracking. i am harassing the sh!t out of our attorney (one of my co-workers) which is awful bc i know how bad it can be to deal with clients! money will be tight for awhile but we decided to take the plunge bc we got an unbelievable house and an unbelievable mortgage rate. no broker fees, and it's not a starter house (which we were also considering) so we don't have to move if we don't want to, and there's room to expand the 2nd floor.

DH & I are going to be the odd balls in this post.

We have no interest in owning a house. We love renting. We don't have to fix anything, we don't have to shovel, mow grass, etc . I love the convenience of renting.

We also don't like being tied down to a location. Right now where we rent is amazing but in 2 or 3 years I don't see DH & I living here. I def see us moving closer to the city.

DH and I own 2 homes... I townhouse and single family. I LOVEEEE having 'your own home'.. Its soo convenient.. Everything from the driveway to the backyard! The thought of having your own and knowing that you are working hard towards something that will be eventually paid off is awesome.. For future generations!

G/L and make a smart $$$ decision! Coops are cool for the convenience of not having to maintain much but its a PITA (according to some friends that own a few).. Hope all works out!

DH and I just bought a house. But we both lived at home prior to getting married and getting our house to save as much $$$ as possible for a down payment, otherwise i don't think there was any way we could have afforded anything.

We own our house, we bought it after we got engaged, DH completely gutted the whole thing with the help of some of his friends, they re-did the whole house in about 3 months.

Rent. We plan on moving out of state eventually so there is no point in buying something here now, to then have to sell it.

We rent an apartment above my IL's. It's pretty cheap (for LI standards anyway) and we don't pay utilities.

I would buy a house tomorrow if I could but we just can't afford a house on LI and probably never will.

I'm all for moving out of state but DH is stubborn and refuses to. So at this rate, I'll be living above my IL's for the rest of my life

We are actually in contract right now with our first house If and when all goes well, we should be in by October 21st...only a month before my due date

we started out renting though
