I was just wondering how many of you plan on staying in the NY/LI area and how many think that you may move eventually.
We moved to San Fancisco and i know Hayley moved to San Diego, also a few other NW's are scattered around the South, so do you see yourself moving with DH in the future or are you both determined to stay in NY and raise kids there (if you plan on having them).

I would love to move to Connecticut but that's not happening so I will just accept the fact that I will continue to live in close proximity to the IL's. LOL J/K

We're definitely staying in NY.......both of our families live here and we can't imagine living elsewhere

I'd love to stay in NY and raise our kids here. This all depends on my fellowship. I plan on doing a 3+ year Cardiology fellowship after my 3 year residency program and therefore, it all depends on what hospital accepts me.
I'm going to try my hardest to stay in NY but I wouldn't mind moving to Miami.

I would love to live in Queens forever. I am pretty sure we will. The only other place we would consider living is the Florida Keys but due to hurricanes and also the fact that DH owns his own business here, I don't see that really happening.

we will be staying in NY. when i was single, i would have loved to move to another part of the country. but now that we want to start a family (sometime in the future, not this minute) i really want to stay close to our families. for me, growing up family wasn't a an important thing for me. however, now that i'm older and wiser, i really want my children to have a close relationship w/ their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. i never had that, so it's something i want for my children.

We were 'this' close to moving to Miami a few months ago!!! I got into Grad school there and we were both really considering it but we decided that it would be too stressful for us both since DH's work is really here and he would have to fly back and forth But thats where we see ourseleves eventually.

We bought our house on LI last year and we're pretty sure we'll be in it forever. The biggest reason why we'll never go too far is because Kevin naturally wants to keep a close relationship with his daughter. I'm also very close with my family and couldn't see myself moving away on our own. As much as we'd love to retire iin Hawaii it'll prob never happen, it's even more expensive there than it is here!!

DH and I are pretty much set on moving when he retires in 10yrs ! we will see where the market is by then and see where is the place to be.!
i will miss my family.. but we are sick of the island.. too many people, too expensive!

DH hates NY...he grew up in Montana (yeehaw!) and lived in Seattle for years...then Israel...he'd love to move back to Israel...
i would love to live in New Hampshire someday...but my whole family is in NY...we aren't having kids so it makes our options wide open...we are on the plan of 'let's see where life takes us'....if i get the police job then i'm definitely staying here for that. I've never lived outside of NY so i would like to try some other place...especially if it's cheaper!!!

Oh wow!!! Big news! Did you get into grad school in San Fran as well?
Im still waiting for my acceptance letters, i should be getting them within the next two weeks! I applyed to law school here and also applied into UC Berkely's Molecular Nutrition Phd program but im not sure what i want to do yet, well see. Two totally different fields

We both have family here in NY, and as long as at least one of our parents are alive, I guess we would stay in NY. DH has no siblings, and I only have one sister. I don't know how I would feel moving away from her, but we are not as close anymore as we used to be. Sad to say, but I would miss my niece and nephew more.
If we had the opportunity for a better life in another state, then perhaps we would consider moving. DH retires in 11 years, so that is something we need to consider - can we afford to remain in NY ?

Already left the island 2 1/2 years ago for Central Florida. I left behind my mom and sis and friends up there. I don't mind visiting but had it living there.
What is sad I found a job with more pay down here then up NY and live comfortably . It is to expensive in NY and we could not do anything on our own. It was and still is pathetic.

Its a tossup. I really want to move to NC because we have friends down there and I really love that its a growing state with lots of young professionals and new families. Housing is soooo affordable and yet there are many job opportunities for teachers (me) and DH can be a mechanic anywhere.
BUT...my SIL now plans to move to NJ and his mom who was planning to move does not want to so DH is starting to drag his feet and suggesting we stay here.
We CANNOT afford here. Period. Thats the truth so I really dont know what we will end up doing. Once we start TTC that will probably make our decision for us.

same here .. Iv'e lived in NY my whole life, and so have DH. Both our families are all here ... with the exception of very little in Boston and PA.
We've thought abt moving to a diff state - but then when we think abt it, New York is our home - and we'd miss it ... as for kids, we decided that we want them to grow up in New York like we did

DH & I moved to Boston post-wedding for his residency --- I can't wait to move back to LI. Miss my friends and family and being able to see them when we want.
We tried so hard to stay in NY for his residency but he ranked Harvard 3rd and got in -- only 6 more years to go!!!! hah
You don't realize how great LI is until you leave -- I miss being close to the beach, I miss big parking lots, I miss knowing how to get around... hahah

Actually, i almost can't imagine moving back!
We're definitely staying here at least 1 more year... then we're thinking of moving down to FL so we can have the nice weather but be much closer to our family/friends.
