To NOT write anything on your thank you cards, if you have a message printed on it, with your names already?

JMO but I would be offended if I received a pre-written thank you- I have received a lot that were pre-written but usually the couple wrote something personal in them as well

I do. We got photo cards from DH's friends a couple of years ago and it was one of those postcard types, with their picture and a thank you message..and that was it. No handprinted Dear So and So, not even handprinted signatures from them. I don't know, i put effort into handwriting my thank you notes start to finish including their addresses on the envelopes. Not saying you have to do that , but a handwritten note I think is not too much to ask.

I think a simple note in addition would be the right thing to do IMO

I didnt think it was rude, until some of the girls on this site brought it up for discussion a couple of weeks ago. At that point I realized that although the pre-printed cards are beautiful the person took out the time to come to your wedding so the least I can do is write at least a thank you by hand and sign it.

I do think it's rude. It's not that much effort to do hand written notes--yes it's annoying, but a few at a time and you can get it done. Plus I really wouldn't have felt comfortable writing exactly the same thing in each card--so impersonal. I wrote something different to everyone (although those less close to DH and I were pretty similar hehe)....

I don't think it is 'rude' but I do think you should just put something on the card to personalize it. What is rude is not sending a Thank you at all!

I had prewritten thank you cards (see album) but i also enclosed a hand-written card. I think it is much more personalized doing it this way.

I think all thank you cards should have a personal message in them. I don't care if someone gave you a pair of socks for your birthday or $500 as a wedding gift. They took the time out to do soemthing nice for you and they deserve a personal note.
I got a thank you card once that didn't even have 'Dear Danielle & Joe' written in it. It was just a pre-printed card in an envelope with a label on it.

Re: Do you think it's rude...POLL
My parents just got a thank-you card from my cousins who had a very nice 3x5 photo on the outside, and when you opened the card, they had a generic thank-you message stamped on the inside! They didn't even take the time to hand- write 'Dear So-and-So.' I'm sorry, but that is just so rude IMHO!

I voted I think it's rude, b/c I do think it's impersonal.
I received a computer generated pre printed thank you including their names with a home printed picture of the couple taped to it.
I never thought stuff like that would bother me but I was slightly put off that they didn't make a better effort.

I voted 'yes' because the people at your wedding took time to come to your wedding and (in most cases) give you a generous gift. The least a bride and groom can do is write a quick personal note inside. Although it definitely takes more time and energy to do this for every couple/guest, people generally don't like the impersonal card and it doesn't leave a nice impression on them...sorry JMHO. One of my friends rec'd one of these pre-printed cards and was very put off by it...she gave a generous gift and felt the least the bride could have done was write a note inside thanking her personally....especially since the girl had a beautiful wedding, writing a personal note is like the finishing touch!!!

Re: Do you think it's rude...POLL
Im def. going to be the out cast here. I dont think its rude at all. Ive been to quite a few wedding throughout the years (family and friends) and Ive gotten the pre-printed no note thank you cards and I took no offense to them. For my thank you cards I didnt personalize them..I had them pre printed and sent them out that way. The only ones I wrote a note in where for my bridal party, pastor, etc. but not to everyone. I dont want to start drama..JMO.

the traditional etiquette is hand written...but they are taking me forever...I couldn't blame anyone for just sending them out.

i think that people expect a short handwritten thank you...i would feel disappointed if i got a 'blank' one

i think if you were to give them to say, people who came who arent close friends OR family, that would be okay.
family & close friends should def get a personal note

We had something printed and we still wrote something. We were able to write specific things for each person. Like a memory or just a extra thank you.

I think its rude, i also think it is wrong, like other posters said, they took the time to come to the wedding and give a gift.
I also have just started writing out my thank you cards. I am trying to write something different and personalize them. It is tough, but i bought a special pen and i am trying to make it look nice and neat.
