I want to move to PA where my mom and sisters live...we could afford to buy a house there that would cost $500,000+ here, but the commute to the city would be about 2 hours.

I'd be willing to deal with the commute for a while, because eventually I'd stop working...because hopefully I'd be preggo.

But, DH does not want to do this...we're trying to compromise...and I think we'll wind up in NJ.

we thought about it... I work in TV so we went to LA last spring to see if we would like it... I feel in a way like i am 'done' with NYC... the irony is after the trip he wants to move there more than i do... i am lax to leave my fam. but it is a ongoing discussion. plus my dream is to move to london.... at least for a few months... am working on it!

We are sort of in that situation - I am dying to get out of NY and live somewhere with milder weather and a slower pace. DH is on the fence and I have him thinking about it. I keep throwing little statistics at him to show him it would be fine. He has 6 years to qualify for full pension benefits and after that I want to go go go..... I just have to convice DH

wow you're living my life. DH's family is VERY close-knit. i want to move to california and he does too, but he's held back by them. he doesn't wanna go unless everyone goes. and what are the chances of that. sigh. i just hope something happens that involves warmer weather and that it happens soon!

Alicia!!! YES!!! Definitely, I'd love to be your neighbor!!! We'd have so much fun. I know that it's not that much cheaper out there, but I'd be a lot closer to my family than I am now. We've been looking in Hunterdon County...and I've been speaking to merf99 about Union County.

Where is Bergen county? Like what cities?

Oooh...I'm so excited!!!!

It is kind of the opposite for us.

While I am on board with the possibility of leaving the city- Iam not 100% yet. DH wants to move south. I know we can live better down there, but I LOVE NY!!!! I really do, and I would have a hard time leaving it.

I do not drive, though I probably will soon, I love all that NY has to offer, my family is here. I do want to own a house, and it is so darn expensive up here, but I think that could change.

We are giving ourselves 2 years to come to a decision.

This has been a huge topic of discussion for my and DH. We live in NJ now, where DH's family is. I want to move back to NY but unfortunately could not get the kind of house we could buy in NJ since DH's father is a builder. Plus DH has started to work with his father (on top of his NYC job) and that is a big source of income for us. It's so frustratiing- I don't want to give that up but I also do not want to stay in NJ. I want to go back to NY to be near to my family.

We have an opportunity to move and I don't want to AT ALL. I think DH could go either way, but I would be devasted leaving my family and knowing that one day, my children won't have everyone only a few miles away. Plus, I'm a New Yorker and like it that way!

Moving is so difficult! We are lucky that we own our apartment, but, it doesn't leave us room to grow at all! My in-laws, I think, are thinking of moving to a warmer climate after this winter. I would so love their apartment and sub-lease ours. My DH wanted to move and I put my foot down. If we were to move, we would be leaving my mother behind (my father died three years ago) and I think that would devestate her. I would like to move but I am very nervous about starting over and meeting new people. I have about 2 years before any major decision has to be made. My DH would love to move to Florida!

Re: does any one want to move out of state and hubby does not??

I used to really want to live outside of NY, and at one point I was on my hubby's case about not wanting to move. However, that was when I had a sort of pie in sky outlook on leaving NY (slower pace, more affordable homes etc, without really looking at the whole picture). Since then, I've encountered numerous people over the years that have moved away and within 2 years are right back here in NY! They often say that while you get houses for a much better prices and the pace of living is slower, finding jobs are extremely hard and getting a decent paycheck to go with the jobs are even harder. Even more importantly, so many people say there is just no where like NY. People are more segregated in their own little clicks, the mindset of the people is different etc. Once I started hearing that from so many people, my whole outlook changed. Besides, I too LOVE NY, I love the spirit, the excitement and all the great things it has to offer. There are the drawbacks, but I think the positive out-weighs the negative.

Now, I'm of the mindset where I feel positive about finding a home of ours right here in NY somewhere. I will not give up until I find my home and I will have a good life here. I don't know what the future has in store for us, but I do know as of now, NY is my home!

This is my life!!! I am dying, and I mean dying, to move away from LI, NY, the entire east coast!! DH is very attached to his family, his mother would probably have a stroke if her baby boy left her.
DH keeps saying that we may do it in a year or two, but I don't know if he's just trying to lull me into leaving him alone about it.
Yes, it would be scary, but I think it would be worth it.

UGH! YES! I want to move either somewhere cheaper in the states or back to england where my family is! HE REFUSES TO LEAVE HIS FAMILY! this is causing major tewnsion, b/c now that he is looking for a place to live, he is looking in Suffolk...... I am like... if you are going to make me stay here, then I need to be closer to the city. MY commute is over 1 1/2 each day, but his is only 15 minutes.......

It sickens me that he is so lost w/out his family & friends...... I can make freinds anywhere, but he is so stubborn!

Re: does any one want to move out of state and hubby does not??

I want to move to where my friend lives in Texas (near Houston). I am forever searching the homebuilder sites and looking at the beautiful homes that I could afford if I lived there. It is warmer and you get so much more for your money. My DH says 'no' so I guess I will be stuck in the cold miserable weather forever!
I would miss my family though!
