Does anyone else feel like there is no TIME for anything...

Does anyone else feel like there is no TIME for anything...

or is it just me?? DH and I work 9 - 5 jobs. I have a 45 min commute so by the time I get home, it's 6pm or almost 6pm. Prep & eat dinner and it's 7pm, later if we cooked at home.

Before you know it it's 8pm and basically too late to start any new 'projects' like cleaning, laundry or household tasks you've been meaning to do because you're tired and want to take off your shoes and relax for a few minutes, maybe watch a little TV.

So... unless you plan to go to bed at midnight (something I can't do easily anymore since getting PG) , when does everyone have time to 'DO STUFF'? There are a ton of little household projects I'd love to at least make a dent in during the week, or errands to run, but I feel there is no time. So everything gets pushed to til the weekend and of course, you can't do everything in two days...

I feel like either I'm bad at managing my time outside of work, or something is up. Does anyone else feel like they have no time to be productive after work?

Yes, I feel that way all the time. Then, if I have an 1/2 where I don't HAVE to do something, I feel guilty because I didn't put the laundry away. I usually don't get home until later in the evening so I usually don't even get a chance to make dinner. I am so tired of Cheerios for dinner!

I totally agree. My commute is 1 hr (each way). I don't get home til 7 (9pm 1 day a week), so we eat at 8:00!!!! After cleaning up and dishes, I'm exhausted!!!! I'm lucky if I watch the 11:00 news.

Weekends is laundry day and general straightening up. We still have boxes that haven't been unpacked yet!!!! (there's just no room for everything) :

This is something that stresses me out to no end. I hate having to leave all my little projects and chores for the weekends. It leaves no time for fun! The weekends go by so fast . I'm way too tired to get things done during the week.
I so wish I could just spend the weekends getting some extra sleep, decorating the house, going window shopping, reading a book......
I told DH we should get a job at one of our company's European offices so we could move over there and get 6 week's vacation right off the bat! The standard U.S. 2 week vacation just doesn't cut it

I am so glad that we aren't the only ones who feel like this.

Some weekends I get so depressed bc I feel as though we have NO time for fun, relaxation, ANTYING other than the chores and tasks that I *wish* I couldn't have gotten done during the week

I work 9:30-5:30, DH works 10-6:30. His commute is 1+ each way, mine about the same (door to door) He gets in about 1/2 later than I do, we try to figure out what to eat, plop on the sofa and just barely manage a decent conversation before both passing out . Weekends we DO try to catch up on sleep, but then it throws the entire day(s) off and I am wasting practically my entire Saturday with laundry, cleaning, food shopping, etc. In a word - it SUCKS

Sundays we are usually at my parents or my inlaws -- which leaves us with hardly any 'together time' ... and by time Sunday night rolls around I find myself getting pi$$ed that the week is about to begin again and we've done NOTHING

I feel a mental health day coming on for both DH & myself

We feel like this too. We just hired a cleaning lady to free up our time. I wonder if there are solutions to any of this. A cleaning lady will help, but doesn't solve the problem.

I have to admit that I feel pretty lucky in this regard.

DH and I both work about 10 or 12 hours a day but the commute is only 15 minutes. On nice days, we can even ride our mountain bikes to work. Since we work for the same employer, we carpool (or bikepool!) every day, which is quality time spent together.

We try to get all our chores and errands done on one weekend day. The other day of the weekend is just for lounging around the house in our pj's, cleaning, organizing, or doing little projects.

For us, the secret to staying sane is rewarding ourselves after a day filled with getting chores done - a nice dinner out, or a glass (or two or three) of wine in, or a bubble bath or massage.

Also, taking mental health days occasionally is a must!

Yes, yes, yes!!! I definitely feel this way and was actually just complaining to my friend about this.

I am hoping once Spring comes, it will be different because the days will be longer.

Definitely agree! We both go to the gym after work, get home around 7 or so. Make dinner, eating by 8. Watch some TV, go to sleep around 10. Weekends laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, football watching for DH...

Doesn't life feel so mundane in way?

I mean when we were planning our weddings, we were busy, but it was more of the excitement and the looking forward to something big and wonderful. I kinda miss that.

I love Phil and I love my life and I know how lucky I am. But I miss the anticipation and excitiment of the weddng and HM.

I need to go on vacation.

SO mundane. I have been at my job for 4 years now. Every day THE SAME. And now my outside life is getting into a routine like that too--and I am thinking, in 30 years, will the schedule still be like this? Same work, same everything? It's like there is no anticipation anymore. Except maybe for retirement. And maybe kids one day.

ETA: I need a vacation too. Not just my work conference that DH is joining me for.

We feel like this too. We just hired a cleaning lady to free up our time. I wonder if there are solutions to any of this. A cleaning lady will help, but doesn't solve the problem.

A friend of mien works really late, and her solutioins are, not cooking- ( she eats at work, her boyfriend orders take out) & sends the laundry out.

She amazes me,. she always manages to go for walks, at night, go into Manhattan for movies, museums, etc. . .yet I know she works so much more than me. She is just a very efficint person.

Well that works for her, but we can't all afford to order out all the time or send our laundry out to be cleaned. I think if we could do that it would help us all A LOT!!!

I hear ya and while I griped 3 months ago on BHB about not being able to take our HM because of DH being in the Police Academy, in some strange way I'm glad it worked out that way since we're finally looking forward to taking our HM in March or April! But it's not nearly as exciting as looking forward to the wedding.

It's hard! My husband has a 3 hour commute each day and lately hasnt been coming home till 8:30, I work till about 6, get home by 6:30 if I dont need anything at the store and I am pooped, by the time we eat dinner sometimes it is between 9 & 9:30. I dont do any cleaning durning the week. Sundays is my designated day, I spend 3 hours and just clean. Their certainly isnt enough hours in a day though!

Re: Does anyone else feel like there is no TIME for anything...

I am 100% with all of you girls!!!!

Adam and I share a car. Here's how our day goes:

Adam must be at work at 8 (his hours are 8-5, mine are 8:30-5:30). So we leave the house at 7:30 to get him to Hicksville.

Drop Adam off at 8, drive to Melville for my Temp Job, starting at 8:30 (Temp Job that has been going on since Dec. and will continue till we move).

Leave office at 5:30 to go pick Adam up at work. Get there about 6 or so. Call Adam, say 'I'm Downstairs.'

Do crossword puzzles (or waste cell phone minutes) until Adam actually walks down to the car. Finally LEAVE Hicksville around 6:30. (There is no use in asking Adam to be downstairs at 6, even though his work day ends at 5. He's got too much to do and I'm tired of arguing this point).

At this point, we've got a choice. Go home (N. Babylon), cook, eat? By this time we're generally too hungry to wait that long! So, it's off to the Mall/PF Chang's/Macaroni Grill/Outback etc. for dinner.

Go home late in the evening. Slowly feel @ss get bigger, laundry pile get taller, and bank account get smaller.
