Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

We are FINALLY going on our honeymoon next week and I was wondering if there were any ideas of restaurants OR sights not to miss.

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

On Maui, if you are staying in the Wailea area, the Luau at the Renissance is very good (food is very tasty!), also try one of the sunset cocktail cruises, they are really nice, unlimited drinks and snacks! and the sunset is great, we went on the Ali Nu'i.
Also if you dont want to do a snorkling tour, you can rent your equipment and just drive to Honolua Bay (west maui) and go there, its really great snorkling but no beach.

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

Call your hotel concierge today (or travel agent) and see if they can book you in for the Lahaina Luau. It's considered one of the best and authentic luau's on the island. It's in Old Lahaina. The reservations fill up EARLY. I called 10 days beforehand to get reservations and we *just* made it - all the nights we were in Maui were booked except for one night and we got one of the last pair of seats.

Cascades - in Hyatt - really really good. Our favorite
Kemo's - Lahaina - good
Roy's - can't remember town, but north of Kaanapali Beach - was alright - the restaurant is nice, the drinks were awesome and the appetizers were very good but the entrees were very small in portions. Too into how it's presented and less into how much was actually put on the plate. If we didn't have appetizers we would have left still hungry. But others we talked to loved it. So I guess it's personal preference.
Longi's - there's one on Kaanapali Beach. Didn't get to go but friends said it is very good.

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

My favorite restaurants in Maui were Spago (@4Seasons) and Nick's Fishhouse (@Farimont KeiLani) - I recommend going to both.

I also went to the luau at the Renaissance and it was good - we also stayed in Wailea so it was the closest one that was suppose to be good. In Maui do the Road to Hana and Mt Halekela -sp?- (we didn't do it at sunrise and I still enjoyed it). I also did snorkeling there as well - there are tons of different trips for that.

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

I second Maribelle7777 regarding the Luau we missed that one b/c it was booked and our travel agent didn't bother to tell us when we booked our honeymoon to do this ahead of time. I missed swimming with the dolphins too b/c of her.

Also in the Four Seasons, the Italian restaurant I forget the name. But the food is fabulous and if you didn't there early the restaurant is basically all open and faces the ocean and you can watch the sunset. Its awesome.

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

We actually didn't like the renaissance luau - a little cheezy...

We loved Sansei (sp?) in Maui - awesome sushi/japanese/hawaiian fusion.

Also, if you like snorkeling, definately do the Pacific Whale Foundation tours...

On the Big Island, definately go on the Captain Bean's cruise - and set your man up to get put in a hula skirt and dance on a table (but don't tell him!).
The food is yummy too!

Oodles of noodles is another good restaurant...

We used Maui and The Big Island revealed books and they were a great tourist guide!

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

We ate at Canoes in Lahina (on Maui) the food was great and the prices were very reasonable. I had chicken encrusted in macadamia nuts...YUM!!!!! I was not impressed with Roy's at all. We ate at the one in Wailea.

Definetly do the sunrise at Mt. Halekalea and the road to Hana. and on the Big Island of Hawaii, go to Volcanoe National Park.

Where are you staying on the Big Island?

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

On Maui- we had our best meal in all of Hawaii at Mama's Fish House. We went for lunch and it was an absolute dream! The Mahi was the best fish we've EVER had. And the atmosphere is very Hawaiian with Tikis and grass huts, and the view of the beach... it was so incredible. You can go at night, but we wanted to go during the day to see everything.

On the Big Island we ate at the Four Seasons which was terrific and incredibly romantic. And we also ate in Kona- honestly, we LOVED Bubba Gumps! (but we're cheezy)

Re: Does anyone know any good restaurants in Maui or The Big Island they can recommend?

I went to Maui on my honeymoon and I can HIGHLY recommend the following:

#1: David Paul's Lahaina Grill : AMAZING, AMAZING!!! Like dining in NYC - expensive but worth every penny!!!

#2: Nick's Fishhouse (@Farimont KeiLani) - amazing seafood - I can't rave about it enough - take a table outside - very romantic under the torches!

The Old Lahaina Luau. - not so happy about the food but it's one of the best and authentic luau's on the island. Definitely book before you go. It was fun!

We stayed at the Grand Wailea and loved their seafood resturant Hhumuhumu... can't even begin to spell it since it's about 26 letters long but it's really yummy!
