Does anyone use an IUD for birth control??

I've been on the pill for 9 years but my blood pressure is high and we tried switching to progestin-only which didnt work, so my gyn took me off the pill. We don't plan on TTC for about a year so she suggested if we don't want to have to rely on condoms I could try an IUD. I don't know much about them and wanted to do some research and what better place to get opinions than you guys! So if you do use one or know anything about them please share....and if you feel more comfortable FMing me please do!

A friend of mine uses one.. she swears by it. she has a lot of health problems, down yonder, and after their first child, they decided they want to wait a while, but she can't go back on the pill... so she's been on the iud for almost 2 years and swears by it... she hasn't told me any horror stories yet, and usually we share stories like that.. so i'm assuming its fine.

Some people experience very heavy bleeding while using the IUD. I know of 2 people who had to have it taken out because of the bleeding throughout the month.

I always thought that IUD's were more of a long term pregnancy prevention. ( i.e. if you were planning on waiting 2-3 years) But if your Doc is recommending it then I'm sure it's ok.

Some insurance co's do not pay for it. This might be why it is rec as a long term thing, though.

i don't personally have one b/c we're planning on ttc this year. otherwise, i'd have one.
I love them and recommend them to my pts who are good candidates. Many do well on it, more than not.

people either LOVE or HATE them.

i happily endorse the nuvaring to anyone who will listen.

i had used BCPs (several kinds), the patch and the depo-shot over the years...

nuvaring was the only thing i loved.

yeah nuvaring no good for me cuz it has hormones, cuz of my high blood pressure she won't put me on anything hormonal anymore - a friend of mine also loves it but its not in the cards for me
