DOGS! Boxers or Labs

DOGS! Boxers or Labs

Do any of you ladies have recommendations for reputable Boxer or Lab breeders in the tri-state area (within a couple of hours of NYC)? DH and I just started looking into getting a puppy (we read Labs for Dummies).

We started with the breeders listed on the National Lab Club web site and one said 1500 and another said 1700...that seems really high!! Are there different breeders for 'pet' pure breds as opposed to show dogs?

I would love to get a Boxer and any recco's for local breeders would be great too!

Thanks!

We have a lab mix and got him at north shore. .....
best dog.....even my DH says so and he has had a bunch of dogs....
do you have to get a purebred dog?

Have you looked into pet rescues? There are so many dogs that need good homes out there.

I would absolutely adopt a rescue, but DH had a pure bred growing up and insists on getting one...

We inquired at North Shore and they didn't have any - but I heard that too! I may try to convince DH to go there anyway and maybe he will fall in love with some of the rescues I've been showing him online

Try googling specifically 'Boxer Rescue' or something like that. Labs might be a little tougher, but I've definitely seen boxer rescues! You might have to travel like an hour upstate or to NJ though but it's worth it!! I have a boxer mix and she's a mush!!

Check out Labs4Rescue.....they are a WONDERFUL organization who rescue labs (black, brown and yellow). We got our dog through them and he is a mix but I know they have purebreeds. Most of the dogs are fostered in CT, so its a not a long drive. I'm actually a volunteer now!

I know you said your DH insists on a purebreed, but I would really fight for a rescue.

does it have to be a very young puppy? my friend has a young boxer..i think a year that needs to be re-homed because she works wayyyy too many hours a day and cant give her the attention she needs

p.s. she is already obedience trained

We have a purebreed AKC certified boxer but I don't think I would do it again. I love him to death but I feel so bad for all those puppies out there in shelters or rescues.

Just a word of advice, if you want a boxer make sure you've read up on everything about them. Even though they're short hair, then shed. They drool a lot - especially after drinking or when they see someone else has food. They're incredibly high maintenance - always wanting to be played with, never lose energy whether it's 5 am or 11pm! Also, we've had A LOT of health issues already from our boxer.

DH's parents have a boxer and they always have to wipe her mouth after she eats cause its all drooly and gross with food. LOL. She is the cutest dog though. And just to warn you...she's 6 years old and is STILL hyper like a puppy. We thought she'd calm down, but she still hasn't. I love that mush face though Maybe she's too old for Jeter, but I think they'd make a cute couple, LOL

If your looking for a purebred you should look outside of NY.
DH and I just bought a pure bred black lab in Vermont for $250.00 they were asking $400.00. She has no papers but we don't care she is AWESOME!! She has the perfect disposition very playful yet very cuddly and calm when she needs to be.

Honestly pure or not dogs are great and you will love them no matter what their bloodline!!

Wow he looks identical to my Jeter! And Cari - Jeter doesn't discriminate - he likes older and younger chicks!

Aw, thanks!! Thomas Paul is a magician!! :)

I have heard that boxers are VERY hyper and may never calm down...but they are just irresistible. We will have to look into the labs available at shelters...I would feel much better rescuing a doggie.
